I agree with the above comment. Some of the staff is very rude and diespectful. The facility is a true 5 star compared to others, but they don't make you feel welcomed. 2 women sit and stare at you with disgust as you eat, making comments how they would never eat this food - wasn't helping. As I was checking out I could hear staff making fun of my heritage and accent. Not cool. Also, they take forever to pay out the money, they will send $50 from the screening by mail (after 2 months or more), but they wouldn't send me the study money, I had to come personally and sign. It's soing to consider if you come from afar. I will only go back there if there's no other studies elsewhere and I'm beyond desperate. Wow. That's just terrible news lately about Abbott/. I used to think that place was the best according to all the reports. Then one by one you all started coming forward about how horrible the staff and experience is there. I guess there really is no perfect clinic, then. It is a shame. I also can't believe they made you come all the way out there to get your check. That is just ridiculous. I hope you didn't have to pay airfare just to come and get your check. I woulda thought they could do a digital signing over the internet instead.

you may want to consider writing the clinic director. if someone made fun of my heritage, background, ethnicity, etc., i certainly would, and name names too.
the directive to eat everything can come from the clinic OR from the sponsor. i was at an 18 day study at SNBL in Baltimore several years ago with 22 postmenopausal women. they gave us huge portions and we were supposed to eat everything. even after only a few days, most of us had gained 1-3 pounds. those of us who were upset complained as a group and the director called the sponsor, who lifted the "Eat everything" directive.
even if this is a clinic decision and not a sponsor decision, it still in my opinion would be good to write and let the director know your logic on this. there are so many variables in our weight and height, metabolism, etc., it is crazy not to allow for some leeway.
sometimes a sponsor just wants that the subjects have had a good portion of food, and 60-70% is usually considered sufficient.
sorry that your experience was a bummer. it seems that most clinics have a few employees who are ignorant and sometimes outright rude ... but most places i have been have at least a few really nice employees too. it is like most places i have worked actually!
best wishes to you.

Thanks guys. Well I live in Chicago, so it wasn't a big deal for me to go back for check, but if I lived in other state, I'd be pissed. I don't think I'll write to the director about the heritage jokes since they guessed it wrong (it was about me for sure tho). I forgot to mention that was built/renewed using "echo" technology, so even if you're whispering at the end of the hallway, talking in your room, bathroom or anywhere inside there - it can be heard by others.

You're really right about the food. I'm about to complete a study here and I'm a rather small female. The food they give you sucks, they give you way too much of the food that sucks, and they don't give you enough time to finish eating the food that sucks. It literally made me sick to my stomach. There are also a couple of people on the staff who are rude and abrupt and just generally cranky. The facility itself is quite nice, is relatively new and very clean and they have a number of flat screen HD TV's with Direct TV (if you can pry the remote away from the guys - just kidding!). They asked me if I wanted to come back for another study, but there's no way I can do that if they force me to cram all that lousy food down my throat.

Staff here are incredibly rude. If you don't want to get attitude, you'll learn not to bother the nurses with questions.
One staff, after a volunteer had left the activity room, mocked that volunteer for being gay in front of the others. Another staff caught me wearing a hoodie that was against code as it covered my scrubs - I tried to explain that it was all I had and I was only wearing it in my room to sleep (I was coming back from the bathroom) when she told me "Look, I'm not trying to be a ***** about this" and walked away. Very professional.
Check in took 4 hours before we were allowed in, and they did not have the 2/3 stipend at checkout as advertised.
The good news is laundry machines are now free at this facility.

am here now. no problems at all. showers aren't hot enough. you have to eat all the food, but the new place is big enough i can just walk it off. 13 laps around the hall = a mile. the food is better than at the old place. there's a pool room, game room, tv room, visitor's lounge, where right now we are having a chess tournament, then the cafeteria, and the library/computer room/quiet room. bring a book to donate to the library. saw a deer from the window tonight.

Can any women who've been to the clinic tell me what documentation they require to prove sterilization? My girlfriend is signed up to screen for a study here but she has no paperwork proof of her surgery.. Thanks!!

UPDATE: July 14th 2013, Now says they are ONLY going to MAIL checks. I am in a study now and we were just told this at screening and confirmed today by staff. I am not sure the exact reason, have heard 3 different ones. Also heard that many participants were protesting this new policy for the past 2 weeks and that is "on the fence" about their new idea. We will see come Aug. 2nd upon checkout. I will update you on the final "verdict".
GOOD UPDATE: We have been able to go outside everyday and also have been able to eat our lunch and dinner outside on the patio.
GOOD UPDATE: The Wi-fi is a lot faster now.

Food has improved vs when they were in Waukegan, but still not the best. They have been trying new menu items lately, seems to be getting better.
Update....as stated before, is now only mailing checks. 2 days prior to checkout, they confirmed our mailing addresses, I am local to Chicago, so my check arrived in the mail the day I checked out of , im assuming they mailed it a day or two prior to us leaving.
They do courtesy stays upon availability and a few days advance notice, but if you like there is also a hotel literally right next to the facility Comfort suites (847) 223-5050 $115, but tell them visitor and you get it for $79

.... hmmm... bunch of a-holes run the joint. I think I'll stick to the clinics that hire happy people.
