I noticed that Covance in Dallas is now using a new od for counting blood draws done during a study.
When you call and get the description of a particular study over the phone, they might say the study has a strangely high number of blood draws. For example, one study I participated in purported to have over 40 blood draws. In reality there were about 7.
Turns out they now count each tube of blood as a "draw" even if multiple tubes are drawn at once. Thus the number of draws that a study claims to have (in the description you are given over the phone) will sound super high. But don't let the high blood draw numbers scare you away. They count differently now.

As far as I know when they say there are let's say 40 blood draws in the study there are 40 actual sticks. I am in a study with 25 during a 5 day in house study and I am getting 25 blood draws of course most on the one dose day where there are 16. At screening they will tell you the total amount for the study but they can't or won't tell you the break down of how many per day, that you will find out at screening but if on the phone screening they say 30 blood draws expect 30 blood draws at least at Daytona not sure of Texas . So just be prepared that it is not by tubes drawn. They use a butterfly needle so I have found the sticks tolerable and actually the more studies I do I am getting more tolerate. Are they fun no but the pay at the end is.
