Once in 2017, and then again in 2018, I was excluded from a study for supposedly failing the TB test run at screening. In both instances I was required to get an outside TB test done to prove I did not have TB before I was allowed to screen again.
In 2017, I was told I'd tested positive for TB and I went out and got a TB test at a clinic (for $25) and faxed the negative results to Covance. About a week later I was cleared in their system to screen for studies, and I went on to participate in two studies that year.
Then In 2018, I was again told I'd tested positive for TB and I went out and got the same test at the same clinic (for $28 this time) and hand carried the negative results to Covance because I was anxious to get into a good study on the board. But this time around it seemed like it was taking them a long time to clear me to screen again. I called every day.
After about a week of inaction, Covance said that the clinic TB test was not good enough. No, I would have to get a blood test ($50) at the county health department. Of course I passed that test as well, and again hand carried the results to Covance. It took more than a week for them to update their system so I could screen.
At my next screening I ran into a gentlemen who told me he had the same experience. But in his case, he had to go get chest x-rays to prove he didn't have TB. He didn't tell me how much all that cost him, and I didn't ask.
Apparently this business of false positive TB test results at Covance in Dallas is an ongoing problem. Hard to believe that a medical research facility would be making so many errors. This is bline reckless.
Has anybody else had the same experience of false positive TB tests?
