I had taken place in a medical study at the Parexel Baltimore site. I passed the screening and everything was good to go. I had to be there one week later at 900am. not a problem. I live in NC and it is a 6.5 hour drive. So I drive threw the night. I get there ahead of time.
I am informed the study has been postponed and that I should have received a call. The nurses that were there thought it was funny that I drove 6 hours and had to turn around. I was not amused.
The nurses gave me a number of Chris Lee. who was suppose to see about getting me reimbursed for Gas cost of driving up there which was 104.00 round trip.
After 2 conversation with him on the phone where he says he is talking to his supervisor about getting me compensated he has cut off contact with me. Also he will not take any of my calls.
So im out 104 dollars. and a full day of traveling on my car.
Thanks Parexel for nothing.

So im out 104 dollars. and a full day of traveling on my car. Thanks Parexel for nothing. The harsh reality about doing studies that you are now learning is that you are guaranteed dime zero until that pill is in your mouth or that IV is in your vein. All risks associated with travel and expenses are on you and you alone.

I have been doing this for years. I know this happens quite a bit. Im just putting the word out there that Praxel Baltimore Is not even willing to listen to me.
This is not the first time that I have not received payment. It just so happens to be the furthest I have traveled to not received compensation.
I would not be so angry about it if the Secretary, Nurses and the Nurse's Aid did not inform them that I would be fully compensated since they did not call me the night before, informing me that they study had been postponed.
Also after being informed that They are going to call me for the study as soon as it started back, they failed to do that as well. Basically Praxel is being run by incompetence.

Hey spencer. Thanks for sharing that about Paraxel with us. These clinics need to be held accountable some how, so anyone who takes the time to create an account on here and share this info is good for all. That being said, those nurses did not know what they were talking about. You were given fool's gold.
What I'm more appreciative of you sharing is the fact of knowing they aren't calling you ahead of time. That is good information to know. I guess with Paraxel we all need to make sure to call ahead of time, and if they don't answer, I guess don't go?

No Problem Carl Im glad people are actually reading our post that we put up. If I even work with Praxel again it will be a cold day in hell.
I guess from now on out I will call the day ahead and make sure. I will also have to start recording all of my phone conversations with personnel. So at least I can hold people to their word.
Thing is. Not all medical research clinics are like this. I have worked with several over the years. I have only ran into a few bad eggs.

Wow that would really piss me off, Spencer. If I were you, I would complain and call and email as much as I could to the clinic and then to the IRB or the better business bureau or Yelp or whatever else I could think of.
I would seriously consider suing them in small claims court. You're not just out $104 in gas, there is also your time and wear and tear on the vehicle. The IRS vehicle mileage deduction rate is I think about 55 cents a mile now, you could probably make a case for suing for almost that much.
Small claims court is usually pretty cheap for the individual to sue in, but a company like Parexel would have a pain in it's *** dealing with it and they might just pay you off rather than try to send someone to court.
The first step before small claims is that you have to make a claim to your adversary for the amount you think you are owed, it wouldn't hurt to just write a letter to Parexel describing what happened and demanding compensation. They will have to have a person designated to receive legal service at Parexel, send it to them certified.
When they deny it or don't respond, you can sue them.
If I had to drive 800 miles and waste 13 hours getting hemorrhoids in the driver's seat, I would sure give those pricks a piece of my mind.

parexel is one place i dont even bother to screen anymore. too many times of being told, oh we cancelled that study, oh they told you the screening is three hours? it's really three days. that kind of thing. recording all your calls is a very good idea, at all clinics. too often you get somewhere and soing isn't what they told you, it's good to have proof.

Spencer, I had the same problem with Parexel. I traveled a long distance. Sat through an eight hour screening. Was told the study would begin in a few days. I called no response. I received a message stating the study would begin the following week. I called no response/no returned phone calls. They gave me a number with no voicemail. I received a third message stating the study would begin the next week (3rd change). I called, but no response. The study is still listed. My question to the board is this: Has anyone contacted the IRB or Sponsor ? Also, I read that Johns Hopkins uses Parexel for their clinical trials. Does anyone have any info on JH?
