Months back ( late 2020) I did a study in which volunteers were not supposed to have any cavities or other such tooth problems because there would be a sub-lingual dose of medication that is supposed to melt in the mouth and supposedly cavities or other dental problems and perhaps certain kinds of dental work (braces, bridges or whatever) could result in the medication going into crevices and less of the medication would be swallowed by the volunteer, or that is what I best understood of it. I guess that is at least part of it.
I guess too, maybe certain kinds of dental work are forbidden or an exclusion factor in studies because it could make it easier for a rat to hide medication somewhere other than his or her cheek. That is a wild guess of course. May or may not be true.
But yes, dental work and getting certain pain for dental work can be a major exclusion factor to certain studies.
