I screened for a study at the end of October and being a vet of studies I thought I had seen everything. They did inform us on the phone screening about the MRI and eye tests but when I got to the initial screening they ambushed us with this two page list of disqualifiers for the MRI. I have never had to do an MRI for a screening so I was unfamiliar with this. Basically, if you have any metal in you from a pacemaker to a metal plate/screws from surgery then you can't do the MRI and hence the study. And yes they go over this after wasting two hours in screening. I had braces and seen an orthodontsit when I was in high school and I wasn't sure if I had anything left over in my mouth or body so the next day I went to an oral surgeon to get an x-ray. If you have an MRI and you do have metal in you it can kill you. An MRI is a monster magnet that can rip out any metal and well let's say it can get ugly. I learned from the oral surgeon that I had two small surgical wires in my jaw about the size of a tooth in length. He said an MRI wouldn't go anything tot hem as they were probably Titanium. But by the time I called Covance back to schedule my MRI they said that it was too late and they had dropped me from the study. One day, 30 hours at the most and I am dropped from a study. This makes no sense. They had such a hard time getting people to screen for the study and all so I don't know why they would be so picky. I was already through the first screening. The nurse said they were having people cancel their MRI and eye screening. It just appears shady. I am going to try to screen again when they do group 2 in the new year.
