a few days ago i went to screen at covance and got a call back saying i did not make it into the study that my thyroid levels are out of range and now i will have to get cleared by a doctor to participate in any studies there in the future.
wait? thyroid levels out of range? what can cause this? i've done plenty of studies at this facility before and all of a sudden my thyroid sparked to 5.7.
what can it be? is it because i did not sleep the night before and drove straight through to screening? is it because i feel a bit of flu symptoms? what can elevate your thyroid? can it just be a mistake? or possibly i am ****ed.

If they gave you a copy of the lab report, you could look to how far out of range it is.
Probably all it will take is a visit to your doctor for a lab test, and a letter from hiim/her to Covance stating that you are healthy, along with a copy of your doctor's lab report.
This is one kind of thing I worry that clinics will start reporting to subject registries like Verified Clinical Trials and clinicalRSVP. Elevated thyroid at one clinic, no studies anywhere until you see your doctor and get a clean bill of health.

But exactly what can cause my thyroid to elevate out of nowhere? they said over the phone soing along the lines of 5.7

Assuming that the 5.7 is your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) measurement, this most likely means you have developed hypothyroidism. It's an autoimmune dis where your immune system attacks your thyroid gland, making it so it can't make enough hormone. It requires lifelong hormone supplement pills.

Elevated thyroid at one clinic, no studies anywhere until you see your doctor and get a clean bill of health. This would be beyond horrible if it were to become common practice. Dammit. I really wish I was hip to doing studies years back when it was the wild west.
