Hi all, nice to meet you.
I've done a few trials in Toronto and I've overheard of people going to the states for higher payouts and Phase 1 studies.
I screened at Covance (Wisconsin) a couple months ago, was accepted and on my way to check in I got turned around at the b. Stupid me, when they asked what I was doing I told them the truth. "Clinical trial" what's that? "research study on medication" Is there compensation? "Yup" Big nono, since I'd need a visa if I was making money over the b, but it's not employment. They padded me down, fingerprinted me and sent me home.
They told me to get a Visa, but I don't think that's what I need. I cannot get an SSN, so I looked into an ITIN (Form W-7). In to apply for one of those, I have to first file taxes showing I need an ITIN. Now there is an exemptions table, but that is mostly gibberish to me.
I have a screening again at Covance in a couple weeks. I plan on playing the dumb tourist card this time, but I will have to cross the b when I check in the second time. If they catch me in the lie I want to be prepared...
Anyone have any clue? Any successful Canadians on this board still? I've tried searching, but no straight answer on this site.

Covance was, said I'd be taxed X amount. Can't remember. Never ended up passing b patrol.
