too bad, i enjoyed your posts overall. i would be very curious what jobs you will get that will be better.... unless you are well-educated and sought-after. for me, i am a bottom-feeder in the jobs market and i am grateful for the scraps (pills lol) thrown to me by Big Pharma. my only wish is that the government would stop being hypocritical and let studies be counted as real employment so that i could earn benefits as well. it seems crazy to me to tax us and then pretend it is all just noble volunteering. and btw: many phone screeners have nothing to do with the clinics or the sponsors. they are wage slaves just like telemarketers. how do i know? i have a friend who was one. so you are cursing your wage slave comrades ....not cool. This is "real employment". You are a self employed contract worker. Contract workers almost never get benefits. An example would be a software engineer who does a project. They sign a contract to do a job for a certain amount of money. It's real employment just like what we do. You do a job, make money, pay taxes, repeat. No reason to expect benefits. However, I do think that if you do a job for the same company several times and do it well then you should get more money than someone who is new or doesn't do the job well.

Here's what you say: "Hey, man, can you please put your conversation on pause until tomorrow? People are trying to sleep here." You must be going to different clinics than I have been to because the people who would be inconsiderate enough to talk on the phone after quiet hours don't care if you ask for them to stop. I have had to get staff involved multiple times. This is one of the main reasons i'm trying to get a "normal" job and not do studies ever again.

Wouldn't be a problem if people went to sleep at a reasonable time and were quite at all times while in the bedroom but that almost never happens. All it takes is one roommate to talk on the phone after quiet hours and you will be sleep deprived.

Found a document on Google that worries me. It's about being a partner of SafeBIOPharma, that is a partner of VCT (jee stuff is complicated). Not sure if it will raise flags in my situation or not. www.safe-biopharma.org/neweleases/072513.pdfIF anyone has screened there recently and wasn't out of their washout period - please respond. Thanks. If you help me out lunch and drinks are on me next time we meet I haven't screened very recently. As of December 2016 they did not have VCT. Unfortunately I can't say for sure that they didn't start it this year.

Your posts are insanely long & completely without value. Unlike the insult you just posted here? I thought I had valid points, and was trying to be helpful. If I offended anyone, even someone like yourself who purposefully does to to others, that was not my intent, Franz. For the length, youve made the same complaint before and could simply skip my posts if they are too long for your preference. Nobody would even reply to the original poster after he asked numerous times until I did, so maybe you can cut me a little slack? PeeGritty, friend, thanks for finding the humor in my post, I wish Franz would. If it is true they are doing hair follicle tests there(certainly possible!), I wonder what the reasoning behind it would be? If it turns out to be true, I guess we will all have learned soing. I think the reasoning behind doing hair follicle testing is quite clear. It goes back about 90 days instead of approx. 72 hrs for urine. I would understand them wanting to make sure you haven't used any recreational drugs for a longer duration. A lot of people have shaved heads so they would have to have a sample taken from the body. That hair grows slower and testing would show drug usage for up to a year. That would definitely be bad for a lot of labrats, good for the clean ones.

That's the part of PPD that I stayed in when I was there a couple years ago. The worst sleeping arrangement by far for any clinic I have been to. I got very little sleep when I was there. Three of my roommates where fresh out of jail and were the biggest I have yet to encounter while in a clinic. Horrible experience. The pay is better than average but I wouldn't go back unless I was desperate.

The last time I did a study at was in December and there was no hair follicle test. There was no talk of going to hair follicle test in the future. I have not heard of any clinic doing that.

I would like to also add has anyone been there recently and if yes is it a nice clinic. Paul has posted in the past that it was great clinic with a lot of amenities but I am coming from out of state and don't want yo waste my time. Is screening easy? Chances of passing ? When u arrive how many alternates do they have. Thinking it would cost me several hundred dollars to screen so just want to see if worth the money and time. Also what airport is the best to fly into, I saw three listed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. It is one of the nicer clinics. Only 3 people to a room and you get real beds with real mattresses. No tvs in the room which is a big plus to me. The bedroom should be a quiet place. There are 7 tvs not counting the 2 in the eating area which you rarely are able to use. That should be enough tvs for everyone. 60 person capacity(20 rooms). Plenty of restrooms and showers. Showers are not fully private but have never had any issues. There are two curtains per shower stall just no lockable door which would be nice. Screening and OPVs take a long time(3-4 hours is likely). Chance of passing? You pass if your labs are good. Screening does matter but you still need to have good labs and vitals. I wouldn't come from Florida if you are screening on the second half of days. For example, if there are 7 screening days, screen for one of the first 3 or don't risk it. They will have a lot of extra people invited for check in and if you have been there before and they know and trust you then that helps as a tie-breaker. Food is no longer required but highly suggested. They keep detailed record for each person and if you get a reputation for not eating your food then you may not get accepted into a food-effect study. All things considered this is one of the best clinics if you care about things other than just the money.

I have done nearly 30 studies over 5 years and have no noticeable long term effects. I have had no bad effects from a study drug that lasted beyond the end of a study. The worst thing that has happened to me in a study was when a tech hit a nerve during a blood draw. I had shooting pain down my arm that took months to heal but is all good now. I have talked to many labrats who have done studies for a decade or longer with no known long term adverse effects. There is always a risk but it's a small one.

I am wanting to know what the maximum number of studies you have completed in one month. 2, 3,... dare I say 4? You must be doing very small studies if you are doing multiple studies per month. I have done studies as my sole income for 2013-2016 and have never done more than 7 in a year.

Will covanc pay for you to come to them Im new at this and need info on it all No, they don't pay anything for screening. New people look at the high dollar amount listed for the study and think "i'm going to be rich". Problem is, you have to travel to the clinic for screening at your expense. Then, if you are selected to check in, you have to return to the clinic at your expense and there is still a chance you won't make it in the study. Even if you do make it in, you have to pay tax on all your income. If this is your main income then you have to pay 15.5% in self employment tax in addition to Federal and State(usually) income tax. It's difficult to make a living off of studies which is why i'm starting a new job next week after almost 5 years of struggling to make a living from studies.

what works for one person may not work for another.....but for me, i try to take long, deep breaths ...not abnormally so, but i focus on them. if you're sitting in a chair, be sure your feet are flat on the floor. and never sit with your legs crossed. for me, i have to be careful not to drink icy cold water from a clinic cooler before BP or it raises it. i think this is a weird personal idiosyncrasy as i have never heard anyone else say that. can you think of anything you did differently at the screenings where your BP was good? i have to really focus in not to get too nervous at screenings and had a problem a few times. i used to be able to distract myself with random pleasant thoughts but now i take a crossword book. maybe that might help, or sudoku, or anything like that that is distracting but not too intense. oh, and i usually try to walk around outside for 5 minutes or so first. as far as diet and stuff, it sounds as if you are very fit. i hope others may have some really good suggestions for you. best wishes You have to be careful about the long deep breaths. Some studies require the techs to count respirations during vitals. If you don't breath enough times you could fail.

Unless the new hotel has a business relationship with Medpace, the volunteers will get themselves banned from that one too by behaving like trash. (That's what happened at the hotel used before the current one.) There's nothing wrong with the food at Medpace & plenty of meals include a salad. Do they care at Medpace if you eat everything or not? I'm only looking to go to clinics that are not picky about subjects eating everything with the exception of an occasional mandatory breakfast on dosing days. I don't even care if the food is good or bad or what the quantity is, as long as it isn't mandatory. I'm not going to starve and it's only temporary so just let me eat the part of the meal that I want and dump the rest. Those are the clinics I will be going to. Covance is a prime example.

madison: good place, good town with a good hostel. you don't have to eat all the food, the food is ok, sometimes you can have seconds. decent staff. hotel type rooms. it's the upper level management i have issues with. so if you've been to madison and davita, nearly every place is worse. and jasper are ok, vince seems like it would be nice. Thanks, I appreciate that. It kinda sucks knowing it's all downhill from now on. Back early in my career on here(late summer, lol), I thought about posting a thread for everyone to rank their favorites and least favorites(as many of each as they wanted), and was going to tabulate it for a ranking like they do in college sports. Now as I face the final curtain, I'm not sure I have the gumption. At least I left the VCT list to hopefully be remembered by. What about PPD? Can anyone compare them to Covance? If I can do one final study it might be there, as Im only looking for soing really high paying. Do they have private showers? PPD is worse than Covance in every way except pay. They almost always pay more per day than Covance. PPD has multiple sections and I have only been in one section so can only speak to that section. That part of PPD had 4 bunks in a very small room with no window. So 8 people total with Very little space. The showers were probably the least private i've seen in a clinic. You do get a locked stall like a bathroom stall. There's a quarter or half inch space that people might be able to see thru just like in many bathroom stalls. I didn't care for that but it's not That bad.
