Will covanc pay for you to come to them Im new at this and need info on it all No, they don't pay anything for screening. New people look at the high dollar amount listed for the study and think "i'm going to be rich". Problem is, you have to travel to the clinic for screening at your expense. Then, if you are selected to check in, you have to return to the clinic at your expense and there is still a chance you won't make it in the study. Even if you do make it in, you have to pay tax on all your income. If this is your main income then you have to pay 15.5% in self employment tax in addition to Federal and State(usually) income tax. It's difficult to make a living off of studies which is why i'm starting a new job next week after almost 5 years of struggling to make a living from studies.

AC is right. With Covance it is a matter of odds. I was told by an employee that they generally screen 4 times the number of people they need, and pick by your lab reults. The top 1 out of 4 with the best lab results make it in.
Even some of the places that do pay you to screen do not make it worth your while unless you live very close, but even anything is better than the zero that the majority pay for your screening.
By the way, welcome to the board! We hope to hear more from you.

I guess people that complain, don't know how to get into studies. Evansville is a perfectly fine clinic. I've never had a problem getting into studies there. I also dont have a problem getting into studies ANYWHERE, that's why I'm not broke. I've been doing studies for 7 years and make PLENTY of money.

The clincards that are used are the same as a prepaid Visa or MasterCard. They are also used at OCRC in Florida & Clinilabs in NYC.

Labrat, I posted for info on Evansville no one answered so like u i have no problem with Covance. I am in Florida and Covance DB has nothing i can do ( they have one posted for 2880 but u have to be 90 days out) So looking st Evansville is there a hotel nearby as i would like to go day before screening or an easy cheap airport to fly into and then i would rent a car . Driving would be 12 hrs though probably cheaper than flying.
I wish i could screen in Daytona for Evansville but that wiuld be in a "perfect" study world. Thanks

So looking st Evansville is there a hotel nearby I'm honestly curious why you're repeatedly asking this here rather than typing "hotels near..." into Google Maps.

I am assuming there are several and was looking for closest and then most economical. If i go would be flying in the day before screening so I just thought that someone might have stayed at a hotel nearby and could save me some time and the possible mistake of a crappy hotel. I would do likewise if I could. I actually like helping people and especially helping fellow volunteers. I have received many great tips from study friends and I aways pass along good info and possible study ings. Hope that answers your question sufficently

I have not found google very helpful when trying to search for "hotels under $40 in evansville" and that sort of thing. There is a hotel right next to covancce but i think it's $50 a night. There's no hostel in evaansville. There might be air b n b's. My formr roommate used to stay at a shelter there, which is not to my taste. I would usually drive there directly or crash in my car somewhere. At my last study, I spit a hotel room with a guy who used hotwire to find a $40/night hotel; that was not in evansville.
One guy I know from these boards has the idea that 5 or 10 of us should get together and some cheap houses near the busier clinics and make lab rat crash pads for $10 or $20/night. I might get around to telling my evansville horror stories if prompted. Right now I'm working an actual job for a couple of months because it's been hard for me to find studies lately.
covance evansville has lots of studies and has high paying studies. they don't pay for screening, and you don't know till you get there if you are an alternate or not, so it can be an expensive mistake for people who fly in and expect to get in but then don't. evansville lacks some of the cultural amenities of madison, and it's popular with the st louis gangster network, but most of the participants are local rednecks, which is nice. i'd say for those within 500 miles, it is probably worth screeening and participating, and save 1/3 to 1/2 what you make to cover screening expenses till the next time you dose; it's a numbers racket.

Thanks Vark I dont mind paying 50 a night if it close by. I go to Covance DB and always screen well and get in with no problem. I just need to figure air fare and or driving into the mix. DB has a study but it had 75 blood draws in 9 days so still on the fence about it though it is only a few hours from my house so might end up doing it. I do appreciate your input.

Actually Alligant Air flies into Evansville from Orlando twice a week for about 60.00 one way. It is a budget airline but worth checking into for those who want to fly.
