Looking for pointers on places to stay for studies. I have a few places I'm going to check out tomorrow, but it's kinda $$$ high here, and I haven't found any weeklies. I'd like $200 a week or Less, not sure if that's possible (or if a $200 place here is safe). So far I've been told that past Dwight = better know how to fight. Who knows though... Any locations to stay or avoid? Any pointers would be appreciated. www.bajiroo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/funny_house-image-fun-bajiroo.jpg![OK OK I GET IT THEY'RE UP SIDE DOWN]()

Their studies aren't even all that good paywise with all those outpatient visits. How far away are you coming from? Some links have already been posted in the forum's Travel Information section here. Soing new I came across recently is a site called called AirBnB.com. It's similar to CouchSurfing.org but you pay for your room. I found one for $28/night in New Haven. That's still not gonna get you under $200. To be honest, you will have a tough time getting good rates from now until September. The busy season is just about to begin.

Thanks for the info, been looking at it.
I found some affordable places but they seem to want students only or haven't respond which is fine, if I offended them somehow, better to know they're touchy now, than to find out later.
I found a temp place till my first check in, that's saving me some $. I'll just keep floating tryin to find places by the weeks I'm out and the Hotel is always there if I need it. Still to idea.

OK, I've done a long study at . I was one week in, one week out over a 2 month period. I stayed in several local spots by night and week both. I stayed in hotels and several private homes and here's the best lodging, hands down, in my opinion. I did find one other place for a couple dollars cheaper, but it's nothing compared to Gregs, both in comfort and hosting. There were a few places advertising cheaper but that was either a hook to get you to contact them and the price changed or they just never respond. I found this guy on Craigslist initially, he regularly rents out rooms. This place in a Luxury Highrise on the Beach and cheaper than a Hotel. Keep in mind, if you're like me & used to Down South, or other markets where you get places for like $200 week, New Haven, CT is a high priced market, I mean, christ, YALE is there. So with that in mind, I found a place ON THE BEACH in WEST HAVEN, top floor of a 12 story highrise building (did I meantion the patio, pool and fitness center?). It's an easy/short bus ride on the J7 to & from New Haven and the MetroNorth train stops in West Haven now, so if you come in from NY you can get on/off in West Haven. He has a regular sized room that this link is for www.airbnb.com/rooms/1378769and a Huge Master Suite www.airbnb.com/rooms/1376352He also rents the whole APT if that's your thing. Greg also rents his car thru RelayRide so you can rent it real easy if needed (it's an almost new VW Jetta) -There's a shopping center next door -Bars (give it +3 days, and still go easy) -Several Restaurants (one has $2.99 breakfast) -Beach and Miles of Beach Walk -A Park that seems to always have a concert or soing going on -I also found a Peruvian place close by called El Rincon that is SLAPPIN! Anyhow, I hope this helps, I wish I'd had it before I came. Like I said I tried lots of places, between screening and final check in, I had about 45 days of out time, so I really had time to find out what worked. Like I said I did find one other place that was a few dollars a night cheaper, and it was no AC, a cot, one bathroom, 3rd floor WALK UP (I was worried about my Liver ATL levels carrying **** up/down the stairs, no joke, I had to retest) I mean, there's no comparison, for the $5 you'll actually enjoy staying at Greg's.

Great to see you made use of the AirBnB.com recommendation. Looks like you found a real winner there. If I ever go back to will definitely look back at this post. I imagine staying here substantially cut into your pay, though. I'd be curious as to how much your final take home was once everything was complete. Note to anyone who considers AirBnb: Like anything always be vigilant of your safety. There is a a site called Airbnb Hell that has been setup for people to share their bad experiences with the system. I'm not going to let that deter me. There's risk in everything we do.

Great recommendation, smiling!
Back when I lived in NYC, I thought I was going to have to kill a night in New Haven for a study I was doing at Yale/New Haven hospital. The hotels near West Haven seemed dicey based on reviews and street view, and the cheap ones further north near Hamden seemed too partied-out. I ended up reserving a Motel 6 in nearby Branford for about $49 a night. There is a bus you can take from there that will get you to New Haven in time for an 8:00 appt.
I ended up not needing the room and cancelling it, but the savings seemed worth the bus ride, and the area seemed mellow.
