I'm new to trials and getting ready for my second one, this site has been very helpful, thanks y'all and especially mods! Two unrelated questions that hopefully will be useful for more than just me:
1. I just screen for a trial at Parexcel and think I will get in. I sense I may be coming down with a cold. If I have a cold when I show up for Day 0 of inpatient will that screw me over? Should I be totally honest, or would there be any consequence to being cagey about if I had recently had or did have a common cold?
2. I'm thinking about trying to get into another trial at Celerion or maybe PRA after this. To be frank: is the washout date strictly enforced with those two places? With others? What about if I tried to do another trial before finishing up a final phone interview? I've been told many people get around these rules, personally I don't think I would ever do it again, events have just conspired right now so that I'm considering it if it's possible.
Thanks, Trial Newbie

If you have obvious symptoms of a cold that can be detected by a temperature check or maybe a blood draw or other tests, then it is not advisable to go check in for the study. Anyway, you would be coughing and sneezing (probably) and others will catch your cold. It may very well be found out eventually and if the research staff link the contamination to you, then you can be barred for life for not telling the truth. It seems if you are genuinely sick and you are honest with the research staff, they should understand and even be grateful that you told them so that they do not accept a sick person in the study that could spread the illness to others, staff and other volunteers. They should not ban you for cancelling under such conditions.
Most clinics have VCT (Verified Clinical Trials) which is some system that has existed for maybe 10 years now roughly. It is meant for clinics to check up with other clinics regarding which volunteers have already done a study with what other facilities and have not washed out yet.
You may dual screen but not dual enroll. That is if you screen at two facilities for different studies in each, ultimately you have to choose one of them to participate in and not the other . I must emphasize this is according to my own experience.
