Help! I’ve been doing studies for years and recently contracted the white coat syndrome! Desperately need tips on what to do. I have tried deep breathing, meditating, trying to relax, which apparently is completely impossible for me. I have an at home blood pressure monitor and it’s always fine! The only time it’s elevated is when I’m at the research facility. I have never had this problem before and just recently it has manifested I have been alted from a study and not even made it through the screening process twice. So upset about this…

So upset about this… I'm in a very similar situation as you. I got bounced at my first ever check in (after passing my screening) for elevated blood pressure. It sucked. Sounds like you are already incorporating some tried and true techniques, which is good. I'm not sure what kind of shape you are in, but if deep breathing and meditation aren't getting you there, I would say you need to to compensate for this by getting yourself into the absolute best shape possible. I'm getting ready for (hopefully) a year round run at doing studies. I've dropped 20 pounds over the last few months. I've COMPLETELY changed my diet and exercise habits. I jog 15-25 miles a week now. A half and hour to an hour of vinyasa yoga a day, every day. I bicycle to jobs or to get groceries, whenever possible. I take stairs instead of elevators, etc I'm fastidious about EVERYTHING that goes into my body. I've axed ALL processed foods from my diet (outside of unflavored Quaker Oats). I measure in my salt each and every day. Protein, carb and fat are precise and ratioed. Vitamin amounts. Water. EVERYTHING. I love beer. I haven't touched it in over 3 months. I check my BP at least 3 times a day with an at home monitor. I've had my BP check at a clinic just to make sure that my at home BP monitor is accurate. Lung function/capacity is an important aspect of blood pressure. There are lung strengthening breathing breathing devices that are fairly cheap that are proven to lower blood pressure (haven't done this because I jog so much) My cholesterol levels have gone up because of my recent weight loss (burning up fat does that), but I'm ready now to stabilize my weight so I should be ready go pretty soon. If it doesnt work, it doesnt work. And hey...at least I have abs now lol Anyhow, that's how I am attacking it. Good luck!!!

Lay off the juice (vodka). Lay off the coffee. Lay off the frozen lasagna. Lay off the bakery. Sleep well the night before. Don't drink too much water. Go to facilities that take your pressure laying down. Pretend you're sleeping when the cuff is on your arm. Use the bigger of two cuffs. Have enough money in your accounts to tactfully not give a ****. There's probably other things, but I'm drinking and can't remember them (you're lucky you caught me feeling helpful).
