Penalty for trying to switch to another study

So apparently there is a "jump ship" policy in place here. If you try to go to another study after screening (say if soing comes up and the dates don't work out for you etc) they will ban you for a month. I understand it must be a headache to deal with this as recruiters but why punish us as well as the clinic? (since they will be down 1 subject for the study)

I mean at least let subjects know when they screen that this policy is in place to make it fair. I've been going here a few years and never heard of such a rule tell i got slapped with it. I don't think other clinics do anything like this right?

keeps more detailed records about the subjects than most other clinics. I think that's a good thing. Once you screen and sign the informed consent you are signing a contract to fulfill the terms of the contract. If you bail they can and should penalize you for it. I think most clinics are too lenient. Obviously a death in the family should be an exception but otherwise once yo sign that paper you should be committed.

I disagree strongly.

Look at that contract again. It says your participation is voluntary. You have the right to leave at any time. The most important principle of studies is informed consent. When they penalize you for choosing not to participate, that's coercive and unethical and interferes with consent.

Say you apply to McDonalds. Are they going to tell you you can't apply somewhere else? That would be like serfdom.

When you screen, they aren't committed to using you in the study, or paying you anything.
If they want to an option on my time for a month at a fair price, say 1000, then they would have some basis to object if I choose to do soing else instead. We have the same right to say no to them that they have with us.

Personally, once I dose, I always finish out a study, even if a better paying study comes up somewhere else. But I'm not contractually obligated to; I can walk for any reason.

At and most places, they won't even give you the informed consent form until screening.
At that point, you might want to talk it over with your spouse, or your doctor, or go to the library to do some research on the risks of the study drug, and decide you don't want in.

actually pays pretty well, but in general doing studies pays so little that you always need to have a backup plan in mind for when you don't get in one place, so we generally screen at multiple places, and take the first one that says yes, or take the best paying one.

So is alone in this unethical practice? No. Some places, like 2 clinics in missouri, have it as a formal policy. the places in kansas will do it but don't warm you first. covance
gets pissy if you screen somewhere else, but i don't think they have an official policy.

Does anyone know the contact info for 's IRB? This is soing that should be brought up with them.

edit: oh it's about screening for another study -at - yeah i guess they can make their own rules about that. also i remembered there's some clinic in texas, possibly worldwide, that doesn't like it if you cancel a screening, even with plenty of notice. if you do it twice there's some penalty.

I just want to reiterate that i did not want to leave for a study at another clinic, just another one at . They could have warned me over the phone when i inquired about the other study, or better yet state it at screening verbally and in the consent.

And yeah getting the consent papers before screening would be a benefit to us all. A few times at i wasn't given it tell well withing the screening and they don't tell you much over the phone. If you ask right away they usually have a copy for you...saves you going through half the screening blind to the study.

I can see at another clinic but jumping from one study in the same place is not smart on the participants part. Also in most informed consents its states subject is reliable if it's for the same sponsor it's even a worse idea. we have the right to withdraw but the CRO has the right to do business and can refuse entry into another study for a time. If you keep trying to jump expect to be band on reliability. Unlike folks think their sponsors will only pay for so many folks to screen for a particular study / cohort. Most do not overbook slots. Just like ever business shrinking budgets etc. I do not take any chances of being banned of course once dosed I finish the study.

Penalty? A punt kicker is one of the least penalized positions in football. I hope that carries over into this sport as well.

My only reason for double screening is that u dont know if u will pass screening so if u fail to get in and u dont have a back-up screening then you can end up several months with no work.
So can u get penaltized for screening in more than one place.
Right now i have one screening so if i dont get in i have lost a month or really two months so i am hoping my screening labs are perfect and that they dont end up with too many people.
My last study was not full so we all stayed except for the woman wearing a medical alert bracelet saying she was allergic to
Soy( now wouldnt u have removed the
bracelet before check in)

Well I was going to do a study all ready to check in next week and they called and cancelled. The sponsor changed their mind end of story no restart date .
So clinics can jump ship on us without a second thought so I say that u have to keep your options and if u already dosed and are just doing spaced apart follow ups and u want to screen elsewhere do it, just make sure that they both are not in the VCT system and of course that it does not conflict with yr output visits which u should already have
I have found that vaccine studies have a six month duration so I now know to read the screening information thoroughly .
I got stuck once in a tetanus shotstudy that kept me from a good study at the same facility so a 150$ tetanus shot kept me from a 2000 study!!!!! Never again.
And to me 6,000 is a nice chunk of change and I would finish the study out.

So by the way I am looking for a study with inpatients no outpatients maybe just a f/u phone call
I am 54 so need soing in y age group, any leads send them my way.
