stop now. the liver has some regenerative abilities. i am not a doctor, i am not your doctor. but if you stop taking poison and eat right and get enough sleep and exercise only mildly, you give your body the best chance to get back in the ranges they are looking for. ten years ago when i decided to do studies i had to give up two of my favorite recreational drugs. it wasn't easy but it was simple, just cold turkey.

if i may make a suggestion .... maybe take some gourmet cooking classes or go online and start browsing the cooking and recipe sites? healthy food that is well-prepared is often more appetizing than junky food. i speak from experience here so don't think i am anti-junk food. but it is not hard at all to chop up some vegetables and saute then in olive oil and then along with a nice crusty piece of bread or cheese, have some really delicious food. and soda is really bad for you ....maybe try to become a sparkling water snob?
anyway in your posts you always sound like a very nice person so i hope you can succeed in giving up alcohol. i come from a long line of alcoholics and there are so many problems that stem from alcohol.
also: i often accompanied my best friend to AA and some of the people i met there were the funniest, kindest, and most helpful people i ever met. have you considered meetings? you don't have to define yourself as an alcoholic to go. maybe call AA and talk to some of the people?
best of luck. you can do it!

Yea. I'm trying to stop altogether but I've been trading one vice for another. Now that I'm not gonna be able to drink I'm gonna load up on fat and grease and drink soda as a substitute. Which is worse? lol.

I am getting the impression that you really do not want to do studies. Alcohol, soda and junk food sound to me like you are justing looking for things to blame your bad behavior on, excuses. Before a study i give up my much loved coffee, stop drinking alcohol three days before screening and before check in. I exercise regularly, drink a lot of water and stay away from all recreational drugs. Why would I do these things , because I want to make $$$$$. It is up to you to do what you need to do to be a healthy research participant, the ball is in your court.

Times are tough. I've turned to alcohol like I'm living in 1930's Chicago. These last six months, I've been drinking to the point where I can't even walk and I become bed-ridden before I black out and wake up the next morning covered in ketchup and mustard with a really bad headache. I do this about three times a week. I don't drink everyday. If I stop now...can I reverse the detrimental effects that the alcohol had/is having on my liver tissue? Somebody told me it takes years and years of heavy drinking to develop cirrhosis. Is that true? I want to do medical studies (I'm saving up for my second nose job) or at least keep the opportunity when times are tough and finances are dwindling. Story of my life. Cheers!.......? Unbelievable. If you want to hear about failure, I just spent about 45 minutes off and on typing a very long reply to this, and for whatever reason the backspace key at times on some message boards takes me back a page with this browser. Usually I can just go back forward, but apparently not on here. Maybe it's for the best, although I thought it was a hopefully helpful post. The one thing I do feel obliged to repeat was that I started off my post with: Youre post and the one later in the thread just solidified you as my favorite poster on this board. I dont mean to knock anyone else or say they haven't helped me more, but the way you word your posts often amuses me, and I see art in it, even if you don't intend such. Sometimes even small details like that you were picking up your booze from the gas station. I dont necessarily know why I found that detail amusing, but that's the great thing about art. I also wanted to quickly add that I think the quickest answer to your questions would be the actual answer, actually trying out for a study. I know that with Covance(and maybe any others too) you can request the results of your labs, and it shows the upper and lower limits as well as where you land in relation to them. I also wanted to say I am in no way judging you, and can relate to where you're coming from. I mean we've had someone on here asking if they can drink the day before a study/screening(if I recall correctly, I'm not sure which of the 2 it was at the moment), so I dont want you to feel alone, and also want those reading this to be understanding as well. I encourage you to try as soon as possible and get some feedback, either way. If you want to take precaution beforehand and take measures, you can always research specific questions on google(lowering ALT or whetever liver enzymes), ask on here, or even shoot me a private message about anything, and I would be happy to help if I can, even if it's an issue with getting into BMI range as quickly as you can. Whether you're goal is cosmetic surgery, building an orphanage, or getting a kegerator next to your bed, I want to see you be able to succeed into getting into a study as soon as you'd like to. Either way, I enjoy your posts, and hope to see more of them!

well, i like your posts and you seem like a nice person.
i am puzzled though: you have told us you frequently drink heavily. so why would you be surprised or "unprepared for" hearing that your liver enzymes are out of range?
drinking takes a toll on the liver. i also never use Tylenol because over time, it can affect the liver. it was banned in Europe for years (i am unclear why it is not any more, but i want nothing to do with it and in fact, ironically since i am a lab rat, do not take any drugs unless absolutely necessary). i work hard to stay fit and to keep my labs good. it is a choice i make since i want to do studies. i guess for me that is a plus since otherwise i might not be that focussed on fitness. nutty but true.
i do sincerely hope you find a good study soon. this time of year is usually a very good one for new studies, so best wishes!
