At least here in Toronto I am starting to hear talk from some clinic workers that should some kind of citywide or countrywide Coronovirus lockdown take place (like what has happened in Italy) the clinics may suddenly, out of nowhere, just cancel studies and temporarily close down until the epidemic passes. I'm in a rather tight spot with money right now and am kind of worried about this actually happening.

Are you mentioning American clinics or up where you are? I am screening tomorrow and so far it's still "go".

We didn't talk about American clinics. But the fact that the workers here are bracing for a possible shut down is concerning (for me). BTW, a few hours after I made my post Trump announced suspension of all travel from Europe for 30 days, the NBA suspended their season, and Tom Hanks announced he tested positive for COVID-19. This is kind of unprecedented. American clinics may be good to go for now but I think all us lab rats should be bracing for some kind of stoppage. Sorry to sound alarmist.

I just had two screenings cancelled on me in Lenexa Kansas. I set up the second one at the the same clinic immediately after the first one got cancelled. No confirmation that it was because of the virus, however, both times the impression I got from the recruiter was that it was obvious. Good luck everyone!

Some good news over in my city (Toronto, Canada). Our city recently announced that all non-essential services and businesses were to be shut down in a day. I'm currently in between periods at one of the clinics here (Biopharma) and called them asking if they fell under this non-essential services umbrella. They said no, that they are categorized as Health Care, therefor they were an essential service and would still be operating. The only change was that they would be practicing social distancing measures in the clinics. So unless things take a catastrophic turn here, clinical trials here in Canada seem to be business as usual.

Is anyone worried about checking in for a study and being exposed to the corona virus while there? I thought screening for a trial now could give me some income while my work is shut down, but wanted to know if sites are taking extra steps to keep people safe.

I thought screening for a trial now could give me some income while my work is shut down, but wanted to know if sites are taking extra steps to keep people safe. If they were following the 6ft rule they we would have to be one person to a room at most of the clinics. I don't see them doing that. I know Covance is not screening people from NY or a few other areas hit particularly hard by the virus. I don't think there is a whole lot they can do. If someone gets it while in-house then everyone else will get it. We all touch the same surfaces every day.

at this point my question is which places are still up and running ? celerion isnt showing any studies in the usa. i think there is low risk of getting it while in a study, because they take our temperature and run safety labs and monitor things closely, and would notice.but there have been reports of people getting it with no symptoms, and what about staff.

I think the chances of getting the virus in study are very high. All it takes is one staff member or one incoming subject to enter the study floor while infected and they will infect everyone else. Them doing temp and vitals everyday will help to detect an illness quickly but it won't stop us from getting it in the first place. Once the main spread of the virus goes down I think clinics will re- but they will have soing in the informed consent stating the risk of infection and that they are not at fault. Then it will be business as usual.

Being asymptomatic and spreading it is a very real threat, and of course as jobs are cut/lost and few places running trials unfortunately there's always going to by some people that hide symptoms and try to get in a study covid or not.
Note: SPAULDING has good amount still to answer Varks question, pulled their healthy studies, and covance restricts by some states...others I can't vouch for
