Countermeasure and Functional Testing Study (CFT-70)70-day trial to study healthy non-smokers aged 25-55 as if they were in space without gravity, to determine if exercise machines contribute to cardiovascular and metabolic health. Use of vertical treadmill and resistance lifting in between periods of head down tilt bed rest with specific diet will determine which mission tasks might be affected by changes in physiology during space flight. All studies pays $160 per day. Alternate Compression Garment Study (ACG)34-day trial to determine effectiveness of compression garments on regulating blood pressure and other systems after bed rest. Participants in the experimental group will wear custom-fit compression garments and undergo evaluation on their response to an upright tilt test and a corresponding set of physiological measures. These participants will be compared to another group of participants who did not wear the garments. Results of the study will help scientists determine the time it takes for the cardiovascular system to re-adapt to upright posture. Not sure why this site wiped out all my other posts about the NASA program, so I'll start fresh with the two newest studies. I've done three of these... they pay well, the food is good and the facility is awesome. ;D Their application and details are located at the official NASA site: bedreststudy.jsc.nasa.gov/

These fools need to pay more per day. 160? That's ridiculous for the difficulty of their studies.

Yeah I have always viewed the NASA studies as woefully low on pay for what you have to do; unless you live real close to Houston and/or you have an attraction to doing soing involved with the space program, which is kind of cool, but not that cool.

Both of our bed rest studies, the CFT-70 study and the 14-day study on the effects and relationship of age, sodium intake and blood vessel compliance to the VIIP Syndrome have finished data collection and are closed for recruiting.
If this changes, please let me know. This is the one place I havent been yet. Next year I'll turn 56 and may have to get an honest job, not sure i'll be able to find enough studies to keep going.
Meanwhile, $160 a day is fine when there are 70 days, as compared to 10 days at $250/day, wait 30 days, 10 days at $250 a day, wait 30 days, etc. 10K in 2 1/2 months is better than you will do most other places. however, i've heard these studies are difficult and painful, so there's that.

it's been more than a year and a half since nasa has had a study, unless they are doing some under the table. i think we might as well scratch this one off our lists.
