I'm currently taking Rifampin to treat latent Tuberculosis. A skin test that was part of the last study I did showed up positive but chest X-ray showed up negative & I have no symptoms. I'm getting treated with Rifampin (orally) for 4 months which will done at end of March next yr. So I've got til at least end of April next yr (includes 30 day washout) before I can get into a study again. I normally go to Covance-Madison, Spaulding Clinical, & for studies. It doesn't look like I have any chance of getting into another study while I'm taking this medication or maybe not? Just wanted to know if there's a clinic or study that I can possibly get into in my situation. Thanks,

you could do the skin test again in case there was a false positive, and then talk to your doctor again if a second test is negative. or you could just go with better safe than sorry.

I have heard that you are not supposed to do the skin test a second time if you had a reaction to it the first time because you could have a worse reaction the second time. I think they just rely on chest x-rays after you have had a positive skin test.
I would think there has to be a blood test available to check/confirm for TB? maybe it's not used as much because the skin test is much cheaper?

Mike, They don't recommend a repeat skin test because you'll likely always test (+). Not sure about severity of reaction. Besides the Rifampin, I'm supposed to get a chest X-ray every 3 years & that's it. They didn't say anything else. I'll try to get more info elsewhere but it appears I'm going to have to wait til I'm done taking the medicine.
