Hey guys,
I've been lurking on this site for a little bit and been trying to get into my first study. I don't think I'm trying to make a career out of it but I would like to do a few over the next couple of months.
I was about to drive to Parexel in Baltimore but I got into a screening closer to me in Frontage, New Jersey. It was for a 14 day $2950 study. I went into the EKG thinking I should slow my heart rate as much as possible. I'm 27 years old and a regular gym goer. I was disqualified from the study for having "too low" an EKG result. Mid 50's. I'm sure I can get my heart's bpms to go faster because I was doing yoga breathing and almost falling asleep. I was wondering if this will always disqualify me or if it was just because one of the study drug's potential side effects was heart failure? Any advice?
Another question I have if that I'm planning on going to Parexel this upcoming Tuesday but I worked out very hard today (Saturday). Should I not even bother because my creatine will be too high or does anyone think I'll be okay?
Thanks,

If you work out regularly, you should be fine. It's the sudden spikes of activity that get you.

I screened at Parexel in July and got disqualified but not for pulse or ekg. I thought ekg was different than pulse but .... my pulse was 42 on the table but the doc just called the PI and they said the cutoff was 40 so I was ok. Got disq'd for soing else there, though .... mainly they do not tell you exactly all the exclusion criteria during the screen so I went alllll the way down there and they then decided I met one of their PI's new disqualifications so ...
I was going to say I went there from Phila to Baltimore by Greyhound. Only took 2 hours, no brain cell reduction from driving, and cheap. Good luck at Frontage. I canceled that screening because it's a PITA to get there from where I am in NJ by public transit. Oh well -- didn't think to ask if anyone else was going to screen there from south jersey or the vicinity. I do not smell, blab incessantly or criticize driving and I am generous with expenses : ) I am doing a screen at TKL in Fair Lawn on Tuesday 12/9 if anyone's going ...

you can get your pulse rate up a bit by wiggling your fingers and toes. i usually try some deep breathing to try to get my ekg better, but sometimes that makes my pulse too low. i wish i knew more about how to manipulate my QtC. The only trick that seems to help any is a good night's sleep at a hotel instead of driving all night.
