We all know that at times it can be awkward trying to explain what we do. Some people are cool about it, and even interested. Then there's the other's whose skin visibly crawls when they hear what we do.
What do you tell people? How do you word it?

It depends who i'm talking to. A few of the things i've said are: "I take drugs for a living", "I get stabbed for a living", "I'm an independent contractor in the medical field".

I just tell them I participate in clinical drug studies. There has never been one instance that the other person has not asked me more about it. I don't hide anything from anyone.

I usually go with my other job title just because it is shorter and needs no explanation. If I'm having a longer conversation with someone i may bring up my other jobs...which includes labratting...whether i tell them it's the majority of my income is another story.
Other alternatives to just saying "i'm a lab rat!": "i work on the development end of pharmaceutical production" "prescription drug R%D" or just say you play parlor games, surf the net and have Marathon show watching sessions for a living....which, god bless, is basically true.
