I did a study last week and checkout already. We are doing the outpatient visit now. We have 9 outpatient visit which they are drawing out bloods and they told us we can not take over the counter medication but I had acid reflux today and I took ROLAIDS(medicine for reflux), do you think they are going to detect it in my blood. I have outpatient visit tomorrow and they checking our blood. Do I need to take anything to flush it out my system? thanks.. You are asking a bunch of people who know better than to take Rolaids during a study. You are one of the losers who gets kicked to the curb so the rest of us can get into a study. What were you thinking?

You can easily Google how long it takes for a medication to leave your system completely. I think only the companies who test every time for drugs are the companies that get A LOT of drug users coming into their clinics.

I'm new to all this. I don't take anything normally. Maybe the occasional tylenol or soing if I have a headache or caffeine pills when I am up late studying. Is it better to avoid taking anything at all for studies? Could soing like tylenol keep me from being able to do them?

Most studies ban everything during the study, and even OTC stuff of vitamins a certain amount of time before them. I mean you can look up the half life of each drug or google how long it stays in your system if you feel the need to not abide by those times, but who can say what effect anything has on the dozens of different things they test for in your blood? But yeah, if you're closing in on a screening date you may wish to play it safe.

What were you thinking? If it's a natural substance found in food you can take it and not be popped. I have taken a no name antacid before a study when it was banned and I passed the drug screen and the blood levels. But maybe my study wasn't as strict as other studies.

You just need to know the washout period.

Yes, in at least two ways. 1) they ask you what you took, you answer honestly they might decide not to use you. 2) you take soing like tylenol and it makes your lab values go out of range.
So, mild headache? Tough it out. Severe headache? Call them and ask what you can take. They will probably say acetominophin. then you bring the bottle with you and show it to them and tell them when you took it and how much. should be ok, but i've never gone that route. take anything? drink a lot of water to help wash it out. tale your caffeine via coffee or tea. caffeine cutoff is usually 48 hours before the study. personally i have to be careful with caffiene because it can throw off my ekg so i mostly use decaf and save caffeine for driving home from a study.
