What happens, to the volunteer's pay, if a study checks in, doses several times, then sponsor cancels?

this happened to a close friend of mine, and she and the other volunteers did receive full pay.
but i guess it depends on the sponsor.
if this is happening to you, i certainly hope you get compensated in full. to me, that is the fair thing to do.
