feel like a violated lab rat if you go to Spaulding

Spaulding it's the last place on the list for most to want to go to while they are waiting for a study at Covance or or other place.
   It is a downgrade squeezing in a study at Spaulding. But we do it if we are waiting for a study at or Covance or some other place.  

 At Spaulding the checks they give you always bounce. Bank always says funds not available. They take care of volunteers last. I'm sure everyone working in a Spaulding office never deals with a bounced check from Spaulding. They get paid without hesitation.

This handing you a check without funds creates many problems and is unprofessional.

Fines and lack of communication more so at Spaulding then any other place. 
Constructive criticism usually get you some not really interested look or not my problem attitude. 
We all play that game waiting 40 minutes to several hrs when calling for a study.

Some of the old staff are great and genuine a few young ones also are great.

Some of new staff are like robots and not genuine.
Going by the handbook and I like the text book lines they use.
Many times double shifts from the robots.

Text book lines you know those same positive words and lines. Different staff same lines.
It is like going thru a personnel interaction handbook of lines or videos on human interaction that some guy in corporate says use this. Respond this way to the rats. 

We are volunteers and human here we aren't prisoners or we don't need to be treated any less.
Corporate believes we are just numbers and treats us as so. Feels like a downgrade to go there. It is. We have seen how true professionals work elsewhere. We know.

But we suck it up and our time until we can go to those other  more professional ,treat you right and organized places  . Covance, .
Thank God some places try harder everyday!

Thank you for sharing this. It isn't the first negative thing I've read about Spaulding here. I will keep it in mind and may shun the place other than when not much else is available. Wouldnt it be nice if they read this board, or in some other way could get this feedback and address it?

I actually have very good experience from Spaulding and have been there multiple times. The staff is really nice and the food is way better than Covance. The checks did bounce for some people but not all of them. I was one of the fortunate ones and feel sorry for the folks that got bounced checks. Spaulding did try to fix it, though. It's unfortunate that happens but overall, I like the staff and the food. The facility is outdated but I like it that you get your own bathroom. Just my two cents!

I've done about 6-7 studies at Spaulding so I know the place pretty well. It has pros and cons like any other clinic. The staff varies in quality a lot. Some are great others are horrible. I haven't had a problem with checks bouncing but have heard several people say they had problems. The food is better quality than Covance but the portions are small and most of the time you are required to eat everything even if you don't like it. That's one of the things I really like about Covance, the food is almost always optional. You get a lot of food at Covance and you just eat what you want and usually it's plenty of food. Not all rooms at Spaulding have their own bathroom. In the new wing you may have 8 people to a room in bunk beds and you all have to share a toilet/sink. The showers in that wing are in bathrooms that are accessible to everyone on the floor and there aren't enough for dozens of people. The worst thing about Spaulding, and I heard this directly from one of the top people, is that they want to be know by the sponsors as a clinic that will accept any study. They don't care if it's more likely to be dangerous, they will take anything. They are trying to grow fast and only care about profit. Covance picks and chooses the studies that they expect to be safest. That doesn't mean I won't go to Spaulding but they aren't my first choice even though they are the closest choice and if I screen I will read the consent word for word.
