I was wondering What the policy is (at most places) if you skip 1 or all of your outpatient visits? Say you miss your first one of three( but can make the others)...are you generally booted from that study then?
AND, if you are discharged from the study for missing OPV(s) will they allow you to screen for a new study or do they put you on "study probation" for a month or two to keep from screening?
thanks

OPVs are important. I think that , though it can vary according to the site, in general a volunteer who misses one of the study days will be considered unreliable and probably there will be some punishment. If you call and maybe have a good excuse such as a family member got very sick or you tried but there were extreme delays regarding transportation ( and it better be true) then you might not get permanently ousted but you might be put on probation, and perhaps they might completely forgive you but you will probably only get a pro-rated amount of money and not the entire amount since you did not complete the entire study. And it depends on how understanding and accommodating the staff of the study site are. Sometimes the study staff are essentially forgiving at first. Usually the sites tend to be hard on new participants who prove themselves unreliable, but sometimes volunteers are given a chance but if the volunteer ues to fail to complete studies, or shows up late (etc) then you will have proven yourself unaccountable and may be permanently dismissed or punished in some way probably by probation and you better carry out the study right when you are given a final chance to try a study one more time. Of course, I think that this is rare in all sites. The staff won't bother with people who are chronically no-shows
