I really hate the down time during the wash out period and I find it rather difficult to find employment that easily accommodates a lab rats schedule. I'm just curious as to those of you that do studies as your primary means of income on what you usually do during your down time.
Do you work? Do you just relax and wait it out? Do you do other studies?

Yeah it's pretty hard to maintain any stable full time (ans some part time jobs) when your doing studies. The beauty is you don't really have to...if you find big studies and are willing to make time and material sacrifices in your life.
Myself i do occasional sales/marketing gigs that i can pick and choose what dates i want to work and also do landscaping/gardening jobs that i set the days since i'm basically self employed. Not always the steadiest work but i love having the freedom to choose when i want to work and can work in studies here and there. I know some guys that will have a small business that they can work at remotely in studies or some will do online jobs that they can take into studies as well.
Keep an eye on the gigs section in craits list or post your own in the services section if you have a skill/trade you are good at. Even if your not a Handy Man pro you can offer to clean, move people, walk dogs etc etc

Do you work? Do you just relax and wait it out? Do you do other studies? It is very difficult to do that. Paul uses the words "labor halls" on the main page when talking about this topic. Labor hall must be a really old term. They don't have such a thing. They do have temp agencies where the work is by the day. Take Labor Ready for instance. You won't make a lot of money, but you'll at least be making soing. Just don't accept anything long-term. I'm not sure how pong above me manages to keep a list of steady customers with the lawn care thing. If your constantly coming and going, don't you have to constantly find new customers? bored, do you live near a big city? They often have small studies that don't require drugs. Just go on craigslist in the volunteer section. Also, someone mentioned in another older thread that they do 3D modeling on the side. He said he learned how to do it while doing studies during the down time. You could look into that. Then you can work with companies who need soing modelled. For intance, landscape design. If someone needs a new design for their garden a big landscaping company will design it first. And they use 3D modeling for that. There's loads of things that you could be self-studying for. 3D modeling is just one.

I am a substitute teacher. I also score essays online. Both are flexible.

i dumpster dive, garden, look for the next house i'll , keep up my blogs, putter around the house, well mostly i waste all day on reddit. lately i've been doing research, thinking about resuming an old business i had.
on my last study i roomed with a guy who had all kinds of business ventures going. he does flea markets, makes soing he sells there, gathers thousands of golf balls from woods and lakes around golf courses, and i forget what else.
a related question: does anybody know a good way to make money while in a study? some kind of online thing for example? www/reddit.com/r/beermoney talks about this stuff, but i havent seen anything there for me.

substitute teacher would be a good one, or a substitute aide if you don't have college hours. I started as a sub, but now am full time working with the school district and we are ALWAYS in need of subs. The good thing about it is you choose the jobs and decide when you want to work. That isn't my route right now, since I'm full time with the district I just do studies in the summer, but thought some of you might want to look into subbing as well.
