Greetings, new member here. I've been doing studies for about a year with little to no trouble with screening, but quite recently, I've been turned down twice already because of a liver enzyme called ALP, alkaline phosphatase. About four weeks ago, I screened in Baltimore, and they called to tell me that my creatine kinase, ALT, and ALP results were out of range. I figured I might have exercised too close to screening, which probably affected my results. So I waited a week, stopped exercising (lifting weights, running, etc.), kept my usual low fat diet (I'm physically fit), made sure not to drink any alcohol (I hardly ever do), and then flew out to Covance in Madison to give it another go. Predictably, my creatinine levels, ALT levels, albumin levels, and AST levels were all perfect. But much to my surprise, my goddamn alkaline phosphatase levels were 138, putting me over by 9 points. ALP was the only thing out of range.
So I've been excluded yet again because of ALP, and now I'm concerned about future screenings. I honestly don't know how to reduce my ALP beyond sticking to a low fat diet and refraining from working out and drinking. About a week ago, I started taking milk thistle and green tea supplements, keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick and lower my ALP down to the 120 range, so I can resume doing studies (haven't done any study since February because of this nonsense). What makes this even more frustrating is that your ALP is considered "healthy" from 20 to 140, so obviously 138 is considered a good number but it's not low enough for Covance and Pharmaron.
Has anyone ever had trouble with ALP? If I've got another screening appointment on Monday, is there anything I could do to help my ALP, besides taking milk thistle and green tea?
Thanks
