Hey guys,
New to the board and just have a few questions for ya. I recently completed my very first study (ever!) at Covance in Daytona. After my initial screening, I was called back for a blood retake for my potassium, they said the levels were high. On the phone I asked what it could be from and what I could do to get it down. After discussing what I had eaten recently the gentleman and I deduced that it was more than likely due to the Gatorade and banana I had drank and ate a few days prior. I chugged a lot of Gatorade thinking it would help me from being dehydrated the day before screening. Bad move. The gentleman on the phone suggested I stay away from certain things foods for a day or two, or, just fast if I could. So I fasted for 30hr or so, just water, and my levels were fine after retesting. Anyway, the day after check-in, when they called names for our group I was called in and told that my potassium levels where high again. I don't know what it could have been. I ate extremely cautiously for the nest few day prior to check-in. Regardless, they said my potassium was high and I could retest with group b in the morning. I fasted again. They nagged me to eat soing I refused and told them that unless it was mandatory, I'd rather just fast, and drink, TONS, of water, to flush out the potassium. Well, it worked. Spent a painless two weeks there and got paid.
Well, I'm now looking to do my 2nd study with Covance, this time I have my eye on their Dallas clinic.
The first week I was out I ate take out/fast food/chinese buffet. And ate waaay to much ice cream. I've been wanting to go on a keto diet to shed some pounds, so after my first week out of binging I fasted 2 1/2 days, to get my body into ketosis, and started a keto body builders diet of just steak and eggs. This past week I've switched it up with bacon/spam and sausage. This was Arnold Schwarzenegger's and all his buddy's diet back in the day. It's an old school body builders diet. They would have a cheat day and eat literally ANYTHING they wanted and as much of it for one day, then go back to steak and eggs. Its called the Vince Gironda diet as well. I've lost 10 pounds in a week and a half from this diet, my face looks, much slimmer and healthier btw (Yes, I was/am just a little over weight). Anyway I am planning to introduce greens, namely spinach, broccali etc. shortly. But since I'm not getting enough fiber I was thinking of taking an ALL natural 100% pure Psyllium Husk powder. Which is basically 100% pure fiber. It is the active ingredient in Metamucil, but without all the sweeteners and other stuff the put in that. I also was thinking about supplementing my diet with Nature's Way whole food multi-vitamins, just one a day.
But now that I'm considering screening again, near the end of the month here, or in early January, I'm wondering if a simple thing such as a vitamin taken once a day, or every other day, and a fiber supplement, taken occasionally to put fiber in my keto diet (and to help with digestive "flow") would be a bad idea come screening time. Can they tell if you take an all natural whole food multi-vitamin? Or if I've taken an occasional fiber supplement? I mean, will that show up??
Obviously I do not have a hyper strict mindset about the diet, right now, as I will have to break it for Covance, but still. I've lost a ton of weight already, and only eat one large meal a day, and am COMPLETELY satiated! I used to stuff my face left and right and never be able to control myself. Now I feel food disciplined all within a few weeks in. But would like to supplement with a vitamin and fiber. I suppose I could just start getting my fiber from greens, after my steak and eggs. But what about a whole food multi-vitamin? No good?
What do you guys think about all this? Would being carbohydrate restricted screw up my lab work? I've never felt better, at least in many many years. Love to hear your thought/advice.
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to read and or reply! Much appreciated!
