Hi guys,
I'm an experienced lab rat from Canada. Here up North, clinical trials options for healthy volunteers are much more limited than in the US, but the bonus is, there is absolutely no income tax to pay on clinical trials compensations in Canada (for Canadians). Not sure what the policy is with the IRS though.
The concept here in Canada is basically the same than in the US, and compensations are in the same range. While there are CRO companies in Quebec, the only city that offers serious and steady trials here is Toronto, Ontario. There are basically 6 major clinical trials companies in Toronto:
Pharma Medica Research

Biopharma Services

Lambda Canada

Cetero Research

Apotex (Must call them to get a list of current studies)

Kendle Inc
www.studies4u.com/ListTrials.php
Note that 4 of these companies share a volunteers database called RSVP with fingerprint technology to make sure that volunteers are not participating in many studies and respecting their washout period. Those are:
Pharma Medica, Biopharma, Lambda and Cetero.
The best company of all is Pharma Medica. They have many more studies than the others and their studies are paying quite a lot. At least 1 study per month pays more than $3,000 and many range between $2,000-$5,000.
The worst company of all is Apotex. They are a generic drug company, so they are doing clinical trials for their own drugs. This means that they do not really care about volunteers and will usually make you feel like they are doing you a huge favor to give you a standby spot (which is the only spot you can hope to get with them). They do have a list of preferred subjects (long time ones) who are always getting participants spots and it's almost impossible as a standby to make it into a study. Don't even bother to apply with them, they will treat you like dirt.
American Citizens can participate in these studies as long as they have a valid passport and private insurance. No need to get a tax card or a SSN from any Canadian agencies. You can cash your cheque at a cheque cashing store for a low 1.5% fee.
I am offering 50% back on their volunteer referral programs. I can also give you more info about clinical trials in Canada and some tips about where to cash cheques and where to stay for cheap in Toronto.
