gosh max, so sad that happened to you. i am certain that many persons on this Forum can relate.
personally i think it is terrible advice to be a couch potato, except for maybe 2-3 days in advance of certain studies. i have done a lot of "matching" studies as a healthy person matching someone who has kidney disease. for those, my Creatinine levels have to be very good and the doctor has always advised me, no strenuous exercise for 48 hours before. i have read that on the internet as well. for ALT levels, i know nothing but it still sounds like bad advice to me, except for maybe a few days in advance. we need to be healthy OVERALL and lying around is not a good way to achieve that goal!
re studies in general: i have never been in TX but many large cities have small studies at universities and university hospitals. in many of the studies, you just do computer tasks, no blood draws, maybe an MRI. they usually pay $25, $50, $100 ...sometimes you can get a few hundred for ones that have several visits. i just did one here in new york, $50 cash for a small amount of time on the computer and some memory tests plus a 15 minute MRI. i know that seems lowly pay compared to the long and lucrative inpatient studies .... but those studies can add up and there is almost never a washout or time-restriction since drugs are usually not involved.
the most i have received in an outpatient study was $600 and the least, $20. anyway, just a suggestion that you may want to look into if you live in a city.
best wishes to you! Traveling Rat

I've said it before here, but I always had much better luck at Worldwide than at PPD, PPD always has more $ attractive studies there, but what good does that do you if you can't get into the study? I did maybe 20 studies at Worldwide and almost never had an issue getting through screening; if you are desperate I would keep trying there, nevermind if they happen to have a particular study there that has a more strict protocol. And another thing I would try to do is line up a screening at Icon about the same time so you can do both while in San Antonio.

It's a combination of what the sponsor wants and the doctor's judgement, but the PPD doctors will boot your sorry asss on a whim.

From what I know and from my experience, cardiovascular exercise does not mess up your liver enzymes, it has to be soing that breaks down muscle tissue i.e. strength training, push-ups, probably sit-ups or crunches would do it too. Maybe cardio where you are also lifting/straining muscles, like strenuous hiking or stair-climbing would be a problem but I don't think "normal" dancing would do it.

It shouldn't be this hard. I'm starting to think I'm on the "Do Not Recruit" list, hey just don't want to tell me.

Not for nothing, but there are hings called jobs. If you've got 2 months worth of $, you've also got 2 months to find a job.

imo, lab-ratting IS a job. it is like most jobs i have held over the years: lots of crapola and the "compensation" is taxed.
it is hypocrisy that the federal Health and Human Services Department does not acknowledge this. and i have talked to several clinic physicians who feel exactly the same.
and yes, i know the history and the underlying principles to supposedly avoid our exploitation. but usually when i have asked questions, i have not received answers, only, "You do not have to VOLUNTEER for this study; don't do it if you have questions."
anyway, money is money is money, whether from "volunteering" as a lab rat or from a regular "job." what's in a name?
go with the best option!

Whatever you do exercise wise. Be consistent. I bicycle everywhere but my alt is fine because I'm consistent.

Just think of all the people who are in a much worse place for a lot longer time, like all the people in prison, or everyone in North Korea, or everyone who has ever had to have a conversation with my stepmother.

I'm currently at a study at PPD. I'm here until the 22nd...arrived on the first. Phew ..its tough. I've been here 7 days and it feels like a month already. I still have two weeks to go. Sometimes I wish that my ECG comes back bad and they send me home and pay me the full amount. These long stay studies are awful. I'm not kidding. I'm chomping at the bits here...constantly looking at the clock...trying to sleep my days away with no success. Please provide me with some words of encouragement...I feel like I'm about to crack! I know I started this thread because I was mad they sent me home during the last study...but its not until you are in a study this long that makes you realize that them sending me home wasn't that bad! There's only so many places you can walk to in here...the facility is so small. And they did away with the walks...they don't take us out there anymore to get fresh air. I'm going insane. They just admitted three new groups into our facility...so now there is five. It is so crowded in here! I feel like going into the bathroom and crying. I can't do this ..I just want this nightmare to be over. you can do it! just think of all the alcoholics who have to live one hour at a time ...i've known a few. this might be a good time to begin to practice meditation ...if you don't already. most persons will tell you, it helps. and there is no one perfect way ....just what works for you. also: don't wish for any ECG's or vitals to be off!!!! some clinics will give you the full amount if you have to leave ... but most will not (in my experience anyway). they'll just pay you for "time served." you sound like a nice person and i wish you good luck. keep thinking of that check in your hand!

Thank you! I'm almost done here, I'm feeling better...but I still have to endure the weekend. I'm just scared that I'm going to check out and go to the parking lot only to find my tires slashed or my engine won't crank. It's a scary thought. I've been worrying about the state of my car since the 16th. It's been sitting out there in the cold for 3 weeks. I worry about it all the time. My cell phone broke around the 10th of December after it fell off the top bunk..so if i were to be left stranded, I don't know what would happen. Aside from that, I'm looking forward to getting out of here. Tensions are high, I can feel it...I swear, almost 2 fights were started today. The last stretch is always the hardest. I can't wait til I leave..I'm going to Waffle House and will literally one of everything off the menu! 2 Pecan Waffles, Eggs, Toast, Bacon, Sausage, Hash-Brown, Orange Juice...you name it...it'll be in my mouth.lol. It's a hard road to getting a sense of humor about this game. You're still in the uptight phase. Hang in there. -SubmarineRobert72
