i've twice had false positives while checking into studies at medpace. so whatever they use, it's a little trigger-happy.
edit 1/4/16, make that 3 times, screenfailed today.

OK, thanks! Just wanted to ask before I try to travel out there. I'm a light smoker (5 cigarettes a week) and was going quit a month in advance for screening!

please quit anyway. you might be able to pay $20 or whatever at your local testing lab before you go, but i cant promise medpace doesnt use soing more sensitive. i once had a ine false positive at morgantown that got me banned for a year. i've never smoked but i might have walked by a smoker at a gas station.
medpace does a drug screen on the urine sample, so i assume that's also how they do the nie test.
edit: medpace doesn't hold it against you if you flunk a screening, you can still screen for the next study.

I know someone that quit week in advance and tried to cleanse her body before a screen and she passed. She is a heavier smoker than 5/wk. I have failed the alcohol test but I don't drink. They use the breathalyzers which can give false positives. They just tried another machine and I passed.
Also, sometimes they struggle to actually set up the instrument properly. There is usually some device that just won't work right - vitals, breathalyzer, ekg...
