if they both have vct, they'll know. there might be a few places that use some other system, i've heard of a fingerprint thing. if the studies have the same sponsor, or same irb, they would know. the FDA has access to both sets of data, so if they wanted to they could check all the studies to look for this sort of thing, but as far as we know they don't.
it's our official policy here at jalr to stress the importance of the 30 days washout between studies. that's important for at least two reasons. 1 is your safety, 2 is the science. this site tries to promote ethical responsible lab ratting. however, what you are saying could still work, because lots of places screen 20 days before the study starts. say you get out of study A, screen somewhere else 10 days later, the study A drug would be out of your system and your red blood cells are starting to come back to normal levels. then you check into study B 20 days later and you just catch your 30 day washout without a lot of unpaid downtime. some places measure 30 days from end of study, some measure 30 days dose to dose. ask lots of questions and don't volunteer a lot of info they didn't ask you.
I guess I would say that most study drugs would be out of your system in 10 days if you are drinking lots of water and eating right. Maybe not 100% of them though, so you can ask about the half-life of your study drugs, and read about them online, educate yourself about what you are taking. if you go screen somewhere and it shows you have some kind of drugs in your system, you might not get into that study, or you might get banned for x months, or a lifetime. i got banned at one clinic for a year for a false positive for ine. i never smoke and hate smoke, but i might have walked by a smoker or soing like that.
you may, in studies, run into "cowboys"; the guys who brag about how much they make, how many studies they do, all the tricks they use to sneak into another high paying study very quickly. you'll rarely see these same guys stick around for years though; they mostly burn out quickly and next year there's a fresh crop. some of us are in this game for the long term, and settle for making a little less money this week in to try to maximize it over the long term. you can learn a lot from those guys, what to do and what not to do. don't become them. they often know of the big money studies before the rest of us do, because they build up a network of contacts.
i try to let people know that i'm happy to pay $100 to anybody who gets me into a good study. i've already paid it this year and it was worth it.
