What is the facility like? The food? The sleeping corridors? Of all the Texas study clinics, this one seems the most vague to me.
For people that have done studies here, what is it like?

I had no problems with the nebraska one, back when they had one there, but i have not been to the texas one. i cancelled a screening there this month, it seemed too far to go for a $3k study. I was a day too late to sign up for a $6k study. When I say "no problems", actually now that I think about it, we were jammed into a big barracks room and there was tension between a white guy and a black guy that almost got really ugly. Did a study at later with the same obnoxious white guy and it was no problem because he had his own room, one or two roommates, so he wasn't getting on my nerves in the same way. [Not that doesn't have its own problems.] So having enough square feet to avoid overcrowding is a big factor.
Spaulding just postponed the study I screened for, so I may end up back at another clinic known for overcrowding, a hostile environment, and noise, so these things are on my mind. Or jasper is going to be screening, but they are going to screen over 100 people when they only need 15, so it would be kind of a waste of time to bother going. Sorry if this is not directly responsive.

I lurked the forum, someone stated awhile ago that Icon San Antonio felt like a "vacation". Sounds pretty ideal,we'll see.
Thanks for the feedback/anecdote

Update from me to anyone who cares: I'm at Icon right now. The facility is charmingly outdated, like visiting a grandmas house back in 1993. Bedrooms have 5 bedrooms in total, comfortable beds and a flat screen. Personal bathroom which is spacious. You do your own laundry and housekeeping comes in every 5 days for longer stays. Food is not bad considering its study food,I've had worse. The menu is thoughtfully put together. There is a random chandelier and fireplace in the dining hall for all you classy rats out there. Staff is courteous, personable and nice-they all seemingly work well together so i'm sure that helps. This is literally a day one review. I'd appreciate anyone who would write a study review so I figure I'd put my two cents in. Like a Yelp for studies, right? If anyone has inquires just let me know,I'll be here for a good minute with plenty idle time.

I would appreciate your feed back on ICON. I am in Florida but can not find a study. Vark posted that they have one paying pretty good but I always like an inside view.
So you said the food is ok. Does everyone get a t.v.? Are there bunk beds in the room? Do you wear scrubs or your own clothes. How are they with blood draws? Do they put a port in on PK days? How does PK day work, do you stay in the same room the whole day.
There is nothing worse than getting into a study and find the facility to be awful and then you are stuck there counting the days until you get released. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Icon was the best study facility I've been to in Texas. Compared to Covance, WWC, and Novum...Icon was the most comfortable with a great staff. The only thing about Icon is being able to secure a screening appointment! They are very sporadic and the dates fill up fast, so you constantly have to check the site for updates! I'm going to address your questions one by one: Does everyone get a t.v.? : Yes, each room has about 4-5 beds total, depending on how large your study is, there will be about 3 women in your room and each room has a flat screen and remote. Are there bunk beds in the room? : Nope! You get a twin bed and the mattress feels tempurpedic. Sheets are changed about 2x week. Consider your room like a 2 star hotel. Do you wear scrubs or your own clothes. : your own clothes, they provide you a color coded tshirt that gets rotated out for cleaner ones How are they with blood draws?: the staff is excellent and experienced, no one was in training drawing my blood. The only con I can think of is an iv that may be put in if you have a lot of blood draws that day. They wake you up at like 5 am to put it in either your arm or hand. Do they put a port in on PK days? No How does PK day work: all blood draws are in your room, they come to you so no need to have to rush for time dependent events. You are not contained in your room either, there is a computer room and lounge room. It's a small facility but comfortable enough to not feel bound. Also the windows in your room are available to for fresh air thankfully. I hope this was clear enough for you! If you do get a spot at Icon, you'll be pleasantly surprised. They take pride here and you can tell:) Now they should hire me for the great publicity 😝

A little about me: I am just getting started in clinical trials . Became unemployed and was doing small outpatient studies until someone told me about Covance and it has ed up a new world of making money.
So I am trying to do more inpatient studies and am hoping to do even more next year.

Thanks for the reviews. Icon has a great $10,000.00 study but the cut off is age 55 and I am a little older. And it filled quickly. But Icon sounds like a clinic I will keep checking. I am coming from FL so don't want to or can't afford to waste time and money. Thanks for both of the great reviews.
