I have a list of people who have had the same thing happen to them. If you want to have a voice and protect your rights as a human being please contact me. We plan to complain to the IRB in Washington to discipline PPD. With our efforts combined we can shut them down for good for not treating people as human!!! Lab rats do NOT need to be treated like SCUM.

I finally got my response back from the IRB and they refuse to do anything. They are basically worthless. They ignored several facts that I brought to their attention most importantly the fact that PPD knew I had microscopic blood in my urine yet they allowed me to screen. I am not broken. I will go to the national IRB and let them know. I can let the drug company's client's know about their unethical practices in conducting studies. I worked at Clear Channel and I was able to get a few Presidents fired. It isn't an impossible task. The workers of the world don't always need to get exploited. We can fight back with a vengeance!!!

They do suck. It usually takes me at least a day before they will get back to me. I hear others get called the same day. I think they hate me. I've screened four times and I've never gotten in. I've done about fourteen studies and have only not checked in five times. Four of the times were at . lol They always have some stupid excuse like my hemoglobin was out of range or my blood sugar was out of range. So I asked for my lab results and I was only off by half a point. I was still in the "not serious" range but they still disqualified me. I really hate them back. I don't think I will screen there unless I am also screening at Spaulding. They love me. I've always gotten in never even an alternate. And I've done three studies there.

They recently screwed me over. They had five of us come in for a screening only to tell us that we would not make it in and would be alternates in case somebody canceled or failed their labs. Phone screening should have told us this. I told them to shove their alternate status and to get me out of the study so I could screen for another study. Some lady called me later in the week telling me I did not even make it as an alternate but I would be an alternate alternate. This meant that I could wait in their lobby on check in day and then if one of the seven alternates did not show up then I would come in as an alternate. I told them I wanted out of that study ASAP. A new study came up for a September check in and paying 4k. I could not screen for that study because the dumb witch still had me in the system for the other study so I lost out on another study. Then on the day the group for the original study was supposed to check in, I get a call asking why I did not show up for check in. I said that I wasn't interested and the person yelled at me. Talk about a crazy place. Since it was almost three years since my last study there, I doubt that it will be along time until I screen there. I hear people have had better luck at Ohio Clinical. They usually have a few coke studies for healthy people a few times a year.

I agree this is a bad clinic. They pay so low and there studies take forever. I did one of my first studies there. The only good thing is that I met a guy who told me about Covance and their good studies. I will post about this in a new thread but they recently screwed me over. They had five of us come in for a screening only to tell us we would not make it in and would be alternates in case somebody canceled. Phone screening should have told us this. The odd thing is that out of all of the study places is the closest to where I am. I've traveled twice as far to Covance, Parexel, and and gotten in ALWAYS! I've only not made it in to check in three times(not including the two times I was an alternate) and all three times were at . The thing that pissed me off was that when they called to tell me I didn't make it the women insisted that I had eaten soing sugary to "spike up" my sugar levels. Even after I said this was not true as I don't eat junk food or rarely anything with sugar, she ignored what I said and persisted on her sugar shack accusations. I may go back only if I have a screening at Spaulding at the same time so that way it isn't a total loss. I always get into Spaulding. They love me. The staff know me very well. They even try to find another study for me to get into. And I've gotten into some pretty hard to get into studies there. Most of the studies I've done had strict criteria. This is why I am amazed that I have had such problems with . I'll give them another try but after that I'll just cut my losses.

travelingrat:
Thank you for your reply.I take 100% cranberry juice several days before I screen and days before check in. I have used this technique countless times and have never had an issue. It is funny that it didn't work after check in. I also consume lots of water to help flush out the microscopic blood in the urine too. People have suggest I swallow the cranberry pills too but I did once while inpatient at one study and it made my urine come back with having bacteria. So I quit taking the pills. Luckily I was already in the study so they didn't throw me out. I am just so mad because the study at PPD paid $8,500 and the only thing keeping me from getting in was a microscopic trace of blood. They were trying to push people throw that study because they needed over 100 subjects and they were re-testing a dozen people with bad labels just to get them to qualify. They even had subjects repeat their blood pressure with a paramedic who had a hand held device which made their blood pressure "suddenly" go down. Out of 65 people in my cohort me and another lady who threw up after getting the study drug were the only two to be kicked out. Bye bye $8,500. There were no other studies to screen for in the area at anyplace like Worldwide.

Hi:
I screened last October for that $8,500 study. They fond microscopic blood in my urine and told me I couldn't screen ever again until I saw a Urologist and got cleared that there wasn't anything seriously wrong with me. It took months to get all the necessary paper work. I had to get a referral first from my regular doctor then see a urologist and have him perform a procedure where he put a tube up my penis. My pee pee hurt for a day because of this. Then I had to have a friend escort me home because you can't drive yourself. I mailed all of the doctor's papers to PPD, Tricia or Trish handles this as she is the volunteer coordinator. Their doctor has to review all of the papers. He wasn't satisfied with I had sent so I had to call the Urologist and get more papers sent. he still wasn't satisfied and I had to call and send more papers. Finally after five long months I got cleared. That patch study came up in July and I got a screening. I came all the way down from NJ to screen. I passed screening and checked in. I thought PPD was ok with me having microscopic blood in my urine. I had gotten into at least four studies before this with the blood and no issues. A friend told me to drink cranberry juice because he said it would temporarily flush out the blood. I did this before my PPD screening and it must have worked. Even though they knew about my blood I did not want anything to hurt my chances of getting in. Now fast forward to the first day of check in around 3pm. I think I am ok and everything will be gravy. The study director told me they have to retest my urine because they found blood. I tell him that PPD and I already went through this and they know about the blood. But he says I have to do a re-test. I know I am going to fail because I don't have any cranberry juice this time. I am just shocked because I took the cranberry juice like I always do right before I entered PPD. I took it everyday before I entered. Why did the cranberry juice not work??? To get to the point, I failed the urine a second time and I am asked to leave. I am pissed because I spent over $600 flying down there and with expenses like the hostel fees and food for the week. When I get home I call the IRB and file an official complaint. That was over a month ago. I get an email from the IRB and they say my case will have a hearing on Friday. I have never had to call the IRB before or file a complaint with them. What should I expect. They said they were going to try to get my money back for flying down there and such. I hope so. Travel can be horrible and add up. I'm still curious as to why the cranberry juice did not work.

I'm a study Veteran having done 12 studies and I have not gotten into all three studies that I have done at . The first one was a have done to get into but I was asked to check in. I did not dose and was an alternate. I except that as it si part of our business to be alternates. The second time they called and said I didn't even make it past the screening process saying there was a problem with my labs. The second time third time they said it was my glucose being too high but a tiny bit. She accused me of eating soing like sugar before checking in. I watch what I eat and eat extremely healthy. I just don't know why I am having these problems. I've done 3 studies at Covance, 3 at Spaulding, four at Parexel, one at Ohio Clinical, one at , and one at Medpace. Should I just not screen there anymore???

I screened for a study at the end of October and being a vet of studies I thought I had seen everything. They did inform us on the phone screening about the MRI and eye tests but when I got to the initial screening they ambushed us with this two page list of disqualifiers for the MRI. I have never had to do an MRI for a screening so I was unfamiliar with this. Basically, if you have any metal in you from a pacemaker to a metal plate/screws from surgery then you can't do the MRI and hence the study. And yes they go over this after wasting two hours in screening. I had braces and seen an orthodontsit when I was in high school and I wasn't sure if I had anything left over in my mouth or body so the next day I went to an oral surgeon to get an x-ray. If you have an MRI and you do have metal in you it can kill you. An MRI is a monster magnet that can rip out any metal and well let's say it can get ugly. I learned from the oral surgeon that I had two small surgical wires in my jaw about the size of a tooth in length. He said an MRI wouldn't go anything tot hem as they were probably Titanium. But by the time I called Covance back to schedule my MRI they said that it was too late and they had dropped me from the study. One day, 30 hours at the most and I am dropped from a study. This makes no sense. They had such a hard time getting people to screen for the study and all so I don't know why they would be so picky. I was already through the first screening. The nurse said they were having people cancel their MRI and eye screening. It just appears shady. I am going to try to screen again when they do group 2 in the new year.

We need to find a web site that has a current list of companies participating in verification of clinical trials. If you try to screen and get caught then they will ban you for life. I wonder if we all ask Just Another lab rat to create such a list if they will comply. This seems up their alley. I'm just saying. I know that Covance does NOT participate in the verification thing. I can't speak for others. But I saw in a post that recently that Parexel started doing VCT in September 2014. But not sure if that post was true.
