I was wondering What the policy is (at most places) if you skip 1 or all of your outpatient visits? Say you miss your first one of three( but can make the others)...are you generally booted from that study then?
AND, if you are discharged from the study for missing OPV(s) will they allow you to screen for a new study or do they put you on "study probation" for a month or two to keep from screening?
thanks

I usually drive there since i'm coming from the west but you can take a commuter train from chicago. Check metrarail.com for schedules. There are two train stops within walking distance of the clinic....libertyville or grayslake i think.... besure to dress warm if you do that. Otherwise call ahead for a suburban cab. I don't know for sure but i'd say the train ride takes 40 min to an hour.

I put a extra period in the link to so here's the correct one: www.phase1.com/InputsFormList.jspAlso to back up the last thread, extra blanket and pillow is a good idea. and also make note that they are pretty STRICT about enforcing house bed time at 11. even if you have a late night draw they want you in bed with lights out...wont even let you read outside your room or walk the halls if your having trouble falling asleep. But most studies tend to wake you up before dawn so you likely will get sleepy by 11 if your not used to it normally.

PROS: Friendly staff (for the most part),Professional, new facility, nice bathrooms/showers, netflix on demand, nice quite room, 4 TVs for xbox, movie/game selection, computer stations, wifi, boardgames and puzzles
CONS: bedrooms with a dozen or more beds..only a curtain for privacy, not much interaction with other groups (4 separated subject quarters), not much space to walk laps, no pool or pong tables, no direct deposit, long way away from downtown.
Overall a pretty nice place but i would not recommend it for longer studies unless you can sleep easily at clinics and don't mind the lack of more physical things to do and smaller space. Best for in the area folks that can make it to outpatient visits easily. Light shades and earplugs highly recommended.

ONE MORE THING. It wasn't really mentioned by staff or subject recently when i was at the clinic but after the new year Abbott was split into two companies: ABBOTT and . From what i read Abbott will handle the baby formula, medical products and diagnostic equipment side of things while will handle the drug development end. So It hasn't been noted here on JALR but the new website is: www.phase1.com/InputsFormList.jsp. the old one will redirect you here anyway. Number to call is still the same, but if you wonder why people arn't talken about the name Abbott much in the future no you know why.

Yeah unfortunately they don't tape your phone if it has a camera. they just ask you to hand over your phone if it has a camera and they store it tell check out time. There may be ways to disable it yourself or maybe an app that does that but that will be doubtful if they let that fly.
I actually dont mind the hospital beds..mainly for there ability to to up and down and lean forward etc. Also they can do procedures at bedside with hospital beds (like middle of the night blood draws and ECGs). At abbott () you have to take a nice walk to a super lit up room and wait for the blood draws...night or day. Some hospital beds are more comfortable than others.

Yes you can bring labtops in but they put tap over your cam lens. You can also bring in cell phones without a camera.
I will second that this place is pretty nice. Two pool tables and 3 xbox dedicated TVs, movie room and other scattered TVs. ample space to walk the halls too. The only downside is they herd you all together for blood draws which usually involves a lot of waiting for things. They also are pretty strict on some thing and can dole out the fines if they have too. Rooms are nice...kind of hotel like...not hospital beds. overall i recommend a stay here.

Thanks, Nice to see MegaBus started service out west too. May help in going from studies to Vegas then LA and then Bay area. Also they recently expanded to Texas...who knows they may make runs past the plain states and into the Rockies and beyond thus giving greyhound a run for it's money.

I'm pretty sure all the Covance locations pay $200 per study. Spaulding it's $100 and Abbott i think is $100 but it pays out quarterly or soing odd like that instead of per study completed.

Sorry to hear you have that problem...can make getting into studies hard as i'm sure you know. I would say try to give yourself ample time to get seated and comfortable with the tech or whoever is doing the vitals. Ask to do blood pressure last if you can so you can do some deep breathing or quick meditation techniques to get your pressure down.
Also If they are taking it in an environment with people running around and making conversation, joking around etc ask if you can have it taken in a closed door setting.
AND If you can get a study that supines you for vitals (sometime ten minutes prior) that would be the easiest to calm you i would think. Good luck

Good tips honest lab rat! I do think traveling to clinics is a great way to get a little vacation time and seeing new sights while also making money to pay that off and come home with extra income. Good point about keeping online spending to a minimum...i would recommend not taking a credit card into studies or just using a debit card and keeping earnings in another account not easily accessible.
I DO have one bone to pick with on theme in some of your many posts lately, that is that all Labrats are just in it for the MONEY. Generally yeah the money is good and besides those really in dire need of 3 squares a day and a need for free cable most would not do this for free. BUT there are many perks to this "work" that makes it appealing and keeps some away from making just as much or more doing a full time job. For one thing there is the social interaction, i have meet a lot of people and had some fun times in studies. at home you cant just play board/video games or strike up interesting conversations as easily as you can in a clinic. Two, the free time allows for one to A, get away from hassles and home and the rigors of "regular" life and B, it allows one time to study, do work remotely or whatever. Three, there is the fact that you are helping out society with your time in the clinic. With out labrats drugs would not get made. A lot of jobs out there don't provide that sort of satisfaction.
I'm sure there are other reasons why people do studies other than just the money, but those are my main motivators. And if the odd chance any study coordinators are reading this is by no means an excuse to lower compensation! lol

If you ask the study doctors or study director politely they should give you a general idea...granted they dosed you with that

I'm guessing this is Covance you are referring to? I haven't been to this one but i would if i lived in Evansville. Consider it a gift that there is a clinic there..i'm still not sure why they have it way down there and not in indy of chicago but better for you considering how many miles people will drive to the study. get one with a lot of out patient visits (OPVs) and you'll be making good money with little inconvenience.
I have heard this clinic is nice and i think covance employees are some of the nicer people at clinics and they arn't too strict on things. so go for a short study and see how you like it for starters.
