I signed up to their database and getting lots of calls for studies here...just long ones i can't do. Anyone go there yet...it ed this winter..site of the old pracs. Is it easily accessible from Downtown St. Louis by public transit? Stuff to do at the clinic... say ping pong for example?

So the company that moved into the old Pracs is called pharmamedica, not on jalr list yet and some st louis folks might not like me getting it out there but to bad...got to share the rat love. I registered online and they called me back within a day for some big studies...but i declined since i stick to shorter ones. They are in Toronto too for the Cunucks on here. www.pharmamedica.com/

Best to ask your clinic what the drug restriction are for your study, most i've done are soing like two weeks prior to dose for OTC meds. And most are pretty strict about this, as i once admitted to a advil 12 days out without really doing the math and thinking they would appreciate the honesty and let it go since it was such a benign drug etc but NO...didn't get in that study! Such a silly restriction...i wanted to just say i was just kidding about that and blame "diarrhea of the mouth"...but then they would be like "come back in six months after you have that bowel problem checkd out"!

Yeah i've had problems with them before, mostly saying i can't do a stuyd a day before check in because i took a similar compound before. Had this happen to another facility too...large companies with many subjects...**** happens i guess, i don't think they are out to get anyone personally.

Bummer, pretty stupid rule i'd say since bedbugs can easily get in luggage/backpacks and clothes being brought in and pillows can be inspected for bed bugs faster than looking through luggage. Why not grab a beagle they use across the street for testing to sniff out everyone coming in for bugs.
I know has seen some cold nights with the polar vortex and all, I just hope covance is warmer or at least provides some decent blankets that aren't just "glorified sheets"!

Yeah there's studies out there for the post 60 set...maybe not as many as the younger population but you'll have less competition getting into them.
Apachedan, can you tell me more about this flu study? location, dates? couldn't find much when i googled

Well i'd say if your trying to work out 5/6 times a week and keep up with this doing studies long term probably wont work out the best for you. you'll likely have to sacrifice your work out regimen a bit, since you obviously can't hit weights in the study plus the daily calorie counts will be well lower than your used to which will throw off your body too. Shoot for short multi visit studies where you can still lift...but it will likely have to be toned down still.
I wouldn't sweat the docs questions, just be as honest and consistent as you can. That being said, if you admit to lifting the day before a check in they will likely not accept you...if that's one of the restrictions anyway...and all the studies i've done it is.

Hey Pablo, i would venture to guess your not working out wasn't the reason you got past the first round, it's pretty easy to make that first cut if your healthy and fufill all their med history requirements etc. I don't keep stats of my work out, i just lift about 2/3 times a week and it's pretty minimal...done in 20 minutes or less. so i'm sure my muscle mass isn't as high as it could be but a lot of ripped guys get into these studies. From what i've heard (no scientific confirmation on this of course) is that if you keep your work outs steady and consistent then your levels should be normal. You might want to ask your clinics for lab results and keep track of your levels to see if workouts really have had an effect. I've seen my labs and they have always been middle to middle high (CPK) with work out. Have fun at PPD...the physical is quick and easy...why they can't do it the same day as the other screening procedures is beyond me.

Damn Russia beat us to it! ...but looks more like a lab rabbit than lab rat to me!
How about a "labrat" statue here in the states, Texas (Austin) maybe...good chance it would be sizable since everthing is bigger there right!? We could vote on what the pose would be: a guy in scrubs starring into a labtop, a guy popping a pill or getting blood draw, or someone just sleeping the day away in a bed? any other ideas? I recommend the material be recycled coban bandages with a Formaldehyde glaze.

I'd have to second what Jones said above. I do cardio and weights regularly and haven't had a problem after about a dozen studies...except for one time and they fell after repeating labs. Of Course i try to follow all restrictions and urge you to as well but the no working out one really annoys me. I mean they do want HEALTHY subjects right? and we have to maintain height weight proportionate...which is really hard to do living in America while Not working out. What you don't want to do is go from hardly working out to pounding the weights, running a marathon or whatever then going to screen or check in the next day...then your levels will mostly likely be out of whack. So if you work out do it consistently...i usually to the day before check ins/screening (may even help blood draw flow) and don't have a problem...but again i do fairly easy/consistent amount of weights and cardio.
So to answer OPs question i'd say no reason to stop the weights...that may even cause more lab problems.

If they didn't tell you all ready they (phone recruiters AND website) had the dates WAY WRONG for this study, it wasn't 7 days but more like two weeks. Of course nobody was told till we first arrived for screening. They were apologetic and nice enough to cover a little for time and travel...though for out of state guys like me it was a small dent in the expenses.

Interesting talk... i think the chips would be great, especially from a ethical standpoint, to cut down on animal testing and the examples in the cosmetics and household cleaner industries would be a good thing.
The speech does not make a good case at all though for replacing humans as test subjects. Yes the example for mimicking children and others that can't be considered a "average" test subject might help, but i don't see how this can take the place of real human. Putting different chips together to mimic a body is still way off of the mark compared to the totally functioning human body. And How would side effects get reported??
If there's a threat to our work (and maintaining a living with) as subjects more use of VCT, consolidating clinics, and using overseas subjects may be more realistic. These examples and the possibility of my health declining and going on meds makes me work on that "back up career"...as much as i love labrating (no sarcasm) it probably isn't a true calling!

Thanks Classic, but at this point i doubt i will even need to change the screening date since i was told when screening for my planned December study (after doing ALL screening procedures!!) that i was not eligible do to taking a similar drug earlier this year. So unless i find a study that goes through the 19th i will just keep my Evansville screening date.
Please let me know if you know of anything in December in the midwest...is the study your screening for filled at this point?

Covance Evansville only has TWO screenings for this study DECEMBER 19th (which i'm scheduled for) and january 2nd. If you are willing to screen on the 19th please let me know and i can compensate you. It may even help your chances screening earlier.
