I know most places the pay usually drops at least $100 per day...some places a lot more. Just curious to what they do at celerion. No i'm not planning on skipping out but it sure makes it a little easier to go into a long study knowing I still get some decent pay if outside life comes knockin.

Do any of you get flu shots this time of year? If so has it affected study acceptance at all?? (assuming you dont admit to it) I see most studies state we can't get any vaccine for whatever months etc...but wtf this is our health were talking about, a bad flu bug could wipe us out for a week and compromise us being in a trial. They want healthy labrats but dont allow us this simple protection of our health?! so hypocritical.

moxifloxacin is a antibiotic that is used a lot as a "control" in studies, chances are you've taken it if you've done a few studies at spaulding. I was surprised to learn it has neurological and psychological effects as well (according to some quick google searches), but yeah I don't recall that being in the ICF, they did say oh it's just a standard old antibiotic that a kid would take...lol okay if you say so.
Of course we only dose once or twice with the Moxi and antibiotics have to be taken multiple times to build up in your system to to much of anything. Same goes for a lot of what we take, small one time doses of what a patient would take for days on end.

Hiredgoons did you make it past the call process? What are the odds one gets past this part if they are new? I'm considering traveling there to screen but not sure.

I think most of participants, even us "seasoned rats", worry a little bit when dosing for a study...you just wont see it of course. I've done over 30 studies and still have a bit of stress about it...but I worry more about what I miss out in the "real world" by being confined and if family emergencies happen what do I do etc etc. I haven't really had any side effects other than a stray headache or two or just feeling a bit groggy or light headed or stool issues. But some of this can be associated with poor sleep and diet (drugs for breakfast!) that comes with starting a study.
The study you make reference to sounds like a phase 3 or 4 study, where yeah there is more risk as the drug is in your system for long periods of time and things are more experimental. Luckily in our phase one it's usually it's less than a handfull of dosings. And you can always pick and choose your study to the more benign sounding ones...for example stuff that's already FDA approved or good chance of placebo or very small doses etc etc.

Thanks for the link...missed it in print. That's pretty rad the author (i think this guy was poking around on this message board actually) went "undercover". It's a pretty staight foward view of labratting and I would say. I don't haven't seen the issue of booting people mid study for a side effect and i'm the first to report every little thing...heck i've seen em quarintine people with a obvious cold...guess it can depend on how bad they need you.
Last study for Paul?? say it isn't so lol...but maybe fidget spinners for cosplay butts are where it's at!

I thought southwest was really the only airline that allows you to cancel with a refund? what are the others? I have a trip with southwest out and spirit in coming up so good to know...dreading those poor excuse of a tray table on the new spirit seats...basically envelope size.

Yeah phone screening with covance is such a chore overall. Especially if you have some past health issues and they have refer you over to a dr first before they call you back in two days with a answer if you can even screen. you just call up and it's like okay when do you want to screen? It almost startles me like...don't you have to ask me 24 questions?! no, okay cool pencil me in!
ALSO, now that labcorp has bought covance how about some using that partner ship to help ease the travel burden for OPVs? Labcorp has multiple locations scattered across the Milwaukee and Chicagoland area, among other places, why not allow us to do our return draws here? Train labcorp in taking vitals and asking us the obligatory "no questions" as well...can't be that hard and it would increase their participant pool. I'm saying no to a lot of their studies lately honestly ... why drive 2 hours for a blood draw when I live JUST 5 minute walk from a labcorp lap?

Brat (great name btw) i'm assuming your asking about spaulding so i'll touch on that. Done many studies there, "wisconsin nice" friendly staff. Rooms (assuming you get the main hospital and not the old one with the dreaded bunk beds) are spacious old school hospital type set up, and you just share with one other. Your own TV and shared bath in room. Food can be a little minimal sometimes, and you'll get sick of the shasta or apple juice option quickly...though sometimes milk is a option. Studies generally pay a litte, or a lot, more than other facilities in the region so it can pay off to make the trip, though travel to is rough as there is no direct public transit to it from Milwaukee however they may call you a rideshare to to and from downtown if you say petty please. Otherwise befreid someone in your study if anything. good luck

screened in late 2017 and they didn't. I highly doubt they will, it would eliminate their pool by about half i'm guessing
