good thread, respect! these days blood pressure is the most common reason i don't pass screenings, so any little tips are welcome.
heart rate too low: wiggle your fingers and toes a bit. visualize yourself running up stairs.
blood pressure: get yourself an arm cuff (not just the wrist ones) and practice taking your bp every day, until it becomes routine, helps lessen white coat syndrome.
labs: drink lots of water before screening. oh not so much you'll die of water intox, but enough to dilute your liver enzymes a bit. i had to make an extra drive to repeat my blood and urine for this study, and drinking water worked and i'm in.

www.optinuacademy.com/claims to have studies. might be in the baltimore area. studies might involve eye surgery. looks a little shady, but someone with more time could look into it. thought i'd mention it here.

i screened for a high pay long term study at parexel. don't know yet if i'm in. if i get in, i'll need to hang around for followups. since the hostel closed, i'm not sure where to stay in baltimore. i figured i'd grab a cheap hotel room on rt 40 north, but maybe someone can suggest a place? gtbear at gmail.

my dues and education expenses are from another of my businesses. you could be right on the internet and computer. again i'm no tax expert. i cannot do studies without a computer and internet, and arbitrarily decided 50% sounded reasonable, but i'm happy to have it adjusted if their rules are different.

i was at spaulding last december. 2 to a room, easy study, paid well. this year when i screened my blood pressure was too high. same at vince. at vince just from walking by it looked like they had 6 people in a small room. that's better than bunk beds but still too crowded. the screening lobby is all fancy and nice, but i have not done an actual study there. i call it vince but it's actually altavista now. it looks like dr vince is building his own study place about a mile north, next to where wholefoods as, maybe 75th and metcalf. not yet, but watch for it. nothing on google about it yet.

Lol, I've been taking the standard deduction for meals for the nights that I spend in a clinic (as long as it's at least 50 miles from home, of course). Don't take my advice, I really don't know what I'm doing. But I'm asking is that wrong? Yes, that is wrong. Obviously you can't deduct meals if you are being provided meals for free as part of your contract. I'm not convinced. The per diem rule is a very general rule. Some people spend $1000 for lunch, some spend $1.50. The irs decided it would make more sense to just estimate it. It's around $50 a day, slightly more complicated than that but that's how i estimate it. Feel free to point to a specific ruling on this point; I'm no tax expert. my main writeoffs are miles, per diems, any actual hotel or plane fare, tolls, 1/2 my internet bill, most years a cheap laptop. some professional dues and uing education expenses.

there's a few in canada. there's a thread here somewhere. i don't know of a site that lists clinics around the world. i'm working on getting my passport, might be a fun way to do a sabbatical year. gpgp.com? i dont think clinical connection is global. they do studies in india but i'd guess they don't pay much and might not be as safe and i don't have any info.

a year later. all new staff since they moved. decent staff, decent location. doesn't pay much. they don't recycle, which is usually a big red flag; if they don't care about the planet, they won't care about subjects. i'm gonna try the ivy motel across the street and i've been recommended the olivette diner nearby. if the hotel doesn't work i might try the hostel in downtown st louis. closed. we have a couple days off between sessions and i don't feel like driving back to indiana. i only screened here because it was on the way to vince, where i didnt get in. i'm 61 now and there aren't a lot of studies, but i'll get one or two this year. i took some time off to spend with my family, and i dont much feel like going back to amazon, so i need to find a study or two. as usual i pay $100 for a lead that gets me a good study. i can't go to half these places for one reason or another. i have talked to some of my old study buddies recently and am trying to get back in the loop of good gossip. the hotel is $45 and decent. the diner was great.

also, they never tell us the results of the study, even years later. which they are apparently supposed to, under fda practices.

if you've been vaccinated the process might have changed. you might want to give them a call. i have found medpace a mixed bag. a couple times i was told that i was in, but then got sent home. but i did a couple studies there that went well. so it's a crapshoot.

this is a very good response.
when i first started, i told eli lilly i'd had some childhood nosebleeds. didn't get into that study. shortly thereafter i found jalr and began my lab rat career. i am now more careful about volunteering extra information. then eli lilly quit doing studies. they had some bad publcity after someone died in a study.
would you be interested in becoming a moderator? our current 3 moderators aren't very active lately. i'm not in charge of that but could suggest it. no pay. they gave me $50 one time. minimal responsibilities.

they were talking about [edit for censorship - phaser] in new haven, across from yale. i screened there once early in my career, and cannot screen again. it was before i learned that coffee makes my ekg jumpy, so i've switched to decaf.
